Nah his not doing the motor, I got another bloke who Did my 1.4l gti n/a monster lol

And I know the gti motors love boost, what size turbo does oozuk have ?

And a lot of ppl keep telling me 1600, well I don't have a 1600 block I've got a gti motor, and I'm dropping it off to the shop this weekend,

I can't stress any more about this, I want to use a T20 or T22 so there going to be a lot smaller then what every one else puts on there gti blocks, so it should hit boost a lot earlier in the rev range, so isn't that better for offroad use ???? Plus it will be geared up, so that will help out in the load on the diffs and transfer case, no ?

fit hilux diffs if you're concerned about the strength of the sierra pinion.

It's not that I'm concerned about it, one guy told me there weak with power so I just wanted to know if anyone had problems

But I'll give it go, and hopefully prove a few ppl wrong, and Steve, your still right about the 3" springs ok lol

SO have you or your mate looked at the compressor maps? When will the T20 or T22 start making boost on your motor? 1500-2000rpm?

How do I find that out ? Would it be on the website ?

I'm thinking of building up a low comp engine for my zook in 12 months time, the only thing im concerned about is

1. will the stock g16b vitara 5spd gearbox handle much more power than a stock g16b engine produces??
2. how will the transfer case, not a coily model (with rock hopper gears in it) handle upgraded power from a turbo g16b??

I like the feel of a turbo coming on boost like everyone else but im more concerned about breaking g/box & transfer cases,

all turbocharged engines can be reliable if built correctly from the start, just wacking a turbo on a NA engine and a chip will never last long

That all depends on how much traction you are generating. If you're talking about setting this up on RPMWRX's old car, the torque of a turbo will trash the driveline. Really, it will. It's already right on the edge of what's reliable with Suzuki running gear.

A G16B gearbox should be fine. You might struggle to get a clutch setup that will work though. Vitara's break/stretch cables att he best of times. Add lots more clamping pressure and you're going to struggle. I'd run an auto in any case to take some of the edge of the hits the rest of the driveline sees.

Transfer could struggle, depends on driving style/terrain and gears.

Diffs and rear axles will die. It's a SPOA car, so you'll have to deal with more axlewrap due to the added torque.

I like turbo torque too, but not if it turns a car that's reliable into a car you can't trust.

yes most of the driving will be otways, mt cole, pyrenees and maybe some high country

I know that been SPOA is not the best idea, the diffs are equipted with cromo axles/cv's and air lockers F&R , i've looked at clutches and you can get either a HD or button clutch for the vitara box

IF i was to go down the path of more power would I be best of ditching the sierra diffs and going up to hilux diffs & transfer case?

or at the extreme end of the scale ripping out the leafs and going 4 link suspension F&R and 60 series diffs which i believe most use, then engineering becomes more of a problem

Knock yourself out, but by the time you've put heavier, bigger, wider diffs, linked/coiled, to deal with the power and torque, you'll just end up with something close in size/power/clearance to a hilux, but with no room and no wheelbase to climb with. Where's the advantage over, say, a hilux?

I wasn't knocking the SPOA, only that with 200+nm it's going to be murder on the springs under power.

You have a nicely built, well balanced car right now. Adding more weight and more power will just lead to a truck load of work and all up likely a less capable/reliable vehicle at the end of all that work.

What problem are you trying to fix with a turbo? Rpm's car would be close to what most people would consider optimum.

i was just thinking a bit more power could be good im not talking 200 diff snapping RWKW's even 120kw would be enough cos not all the time you are stomping the right foot while in the bush especially when it has diff gears and transfer gears done

i know the way the vehicle is now is very reliable and its basically the same width as a hilux as its running cut & flipped rims with big offset on 35" simex's

Sure, but it has much smaller diff centres. Put it on lux, or worse, 60 series diffs, and you've just lost the advantage of a Sierra- light, tiny axles. You end up with a too-short hilux.

If you want that much power, you're going to want more wheelbase to keep it controllable and let it climb with high wheel speed, which is all more power is really going to give you.

If you really want 200Nm in a Sierra, start with a 3rz or 4agze and at least 92" of wheelbase.

guess you can call this a can't have a cake and eat it kind of situation, or more like sitting on a knife edge, go more one way and it becomes a full on crawler or keep it road legal..

Exactly.

It's nice knowing that there's no obvious "weak links" in a car. Wondering what will break if you get on the power isn't the recipe for a fun day out. Neither is getting outdriven by a 1.0 on 31's, and that's a real risk with heavy diffs and 35's on a sierra. Suzuki's on 31's outdrive patrols on 35's all the time, and that's the problem with big, heavy diffs under a light car.

Im building a pretty serious engine atm, power output will be between 250-300hp atw. Consists of; custom forged Wiseco pistons, Spool 'H' beam rods, beefy stud girdle, arp head, main and rod bolts, motec ecu, custom semi-closed deck, ported head, solid converted lifters, just got to see them about what valves, retainers and collets they are using, I want this to have stainless valves with chromoly or titanium retainers and collets. Turbo is a hks gt2510. Yes this thing is costing me a bomb, and there isnt any real reason to build a motor with so much power except for the reason being because I can. rest of the drive line will be Bundy/hilux diffs, rebuilt aw4, custom made converter and possibly lt230

Thats pretty cool! Reckon you'll have enough torque with the LT Low range?

not sure, will all be trial a error, the converter will have a 1500 (roughly) stall speed, so it will be strating to produce boost, might be alright. or i might look into getting a second hand atlas from the states

Atlas are 1:1.

LT have a slightly better ratio(they vary between models) and there are low range gearsets, but not really worth it unless you get them cheap second hand.
The 3.3 Low in the LT is pretty useable with an auto and a bit of grunt.

LT230 can be had with 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6:1 High range ratios.

Low range gear sets are available, as are overdrive units, and PTO drives.

Sky ( and budget ) are the limit!

A few people I know have looked into the gear sets. IF you can get them, you may as well get an Atlas.
But, it really depends on if you need the high range too.

1.6 are in the early Defenders are they Pete?

Not sure mate.

You can buy then new from the link above. AFAIK, all aussie defenders are 1.4:1. And they are expensive! The disco guys use them to replace their 1.2:1 cases for better high range on 33's.

Just had a look at that link. Thats not the gear sets I was thinking of.. there were other more dramatic gear sets available once. A mate has a set of 5.4?'s in his shed last I asked.

Yeah you can buy 4:1. 5:1 and 6:1 lowrange gear sets for them. About 800UK for the ger set.

I'm just going to use my curent rangie LT230 for mock-up, and order a rebuilt and dressed LT230 from the UK. 1.4H, 5:1L, or stock low and underdrive.
