Does anyone have an AW3 with transfer on it they could run a tape measure over and give me an overall length on?

Thinking about a engine/transmission change and about dual transfers...

Three speed auto? If so that is made by GM not Aisin Warner.

Should be pretty close to the AW4. Without giving you any actual information, the difference between the 3 and 4speeds inc transfer would not be enough discount one over the other as a candidate for trans and dual transfer swap. Just pick the one that works best for your needs ( gear/ ratio spread ) and have at it.

Three speed auto is the same length as the five speed manual four speed auto is a fair bit longer then the other two

the tranny pan on the 3spd is alot wider to, so you need to run a small dia shaft

I have a 3 speed auto sitting in the garage. Ill measure it up for you tomorrow. They are definitely shorter than a 4 speed by about 130mm iirc

Thanks for the info, So 910mm including transfer for the 3 speed, and a bit longer?? for the 4 spd.

I will measure and ponder, which transfers have the 1:1 high ratio? and are they interchangable between 3 and 4 speed?

ALL vitara transfers have 1:1 high.

G16B AW4 and transfer I get 915mm.

J20 AW4 and transfer I get 945mm. (bellhousing is 30mm longer)

Not sure where these +130mm measurements are coming from ^^^^^^^

I was sure I'd read 130mm somewhere.
Going by the trail tough installation instructions for their auto conversion kit the measurement U-joint Center to U-joint center of the jackshaft is as follows
3 speed - 7 1/8"
4 speed - 3 3/4"

so that means the output of the 4 speed is 3.375" further back which makes it 85.725mm longer than the trimatic

That may be the case after you take the extension housing off the back, but overall length with the transfer doesn't seem to be much different. And since the OP is after a length WITH the transfer, your point is moot.
