wow i just made my self look like a dick, i only looked at it in a small pick and didn't notice the front half of the cage....ill try and explain i think its called four point bar. so its got the big hoop behind seats and the two return bars down to the rear of the wheel arches does that still need mod plating? i think it does but the guy selling it didn't think it did so just thought i would check before buying cause i dont want to buy it and not be able to have it mod plated. its 3 inch 3mm walled tube 304 stainless with a diagonal in the hoop and 2mm rolled plates for mounting under the guard any ideas if it would be legal/passable? also how do you post photos :s

Technically yes. Has it also had the rear seats removed? It'll need a plate for that too (unless it's plated as a 2 seater). Shouldn't be a problem tho, if it is just pull it out?

I have also heard this. Can you prove they're factory fitted if asked? I'm not saying I don't believe you just that Qld has brought in ridiculous new 'hooning laws' and I'd hate to see someone get tangled up in them due to not having a simple mod plate

No such thing. Dealer fit at best, locally sourced.

Question for the OP - what are you requiring a cage for? is it for higher speed occupant protection or just to save totalling the car?

From what I have found all internal cages require an engineers cert/mod plate. However if you just want to protect the body a tight exo cage is probably better suited.

An exo cage falls under a different category as an occupant isnt going to hit their head on it. It is however required to comply with rules on protrusions and obstruction for the field of view. In the Vicroads VSI8 (modifications guide) there is no mention of external cages, but a quick call to your transport authority would be able to confirm.

Really? Would there be some consistency where they could be sourced from?
Just, they are identical.

I'm guessing there was a dealer fit roll bar. Most dealer fit suzuki accessories are sourced locally, from local aftermarket suppliers. The hardtops are a notable exception. Add to that there are limited makers of roll bars in any state - I can only really think of about two in Vic from that time - odds are that a car from a similar time period might have a roll bar from the same source as any other car from a similar time.

There were dealer fit bull bars for suzuki's that were produced locally by hayman reece, for example. The family of a mate I had at school had one on an 89 vit. ( it had a dealer fit alloy roll bat too, don't know who made it though)

As an aside, funny story that - somehow oldmates mum managed to tail end oldmates dad. Problem - oldmates mum was in the Vit, and she ran up the arse of oldmates dad in his car, a brand new 420SEL Benz. ($180K at the time - 1991) the "bull bar" maximised damage to both vehicles beautifully - instead of plastic bumper vs plastic bumper, it was bullbar upright into boot lid and rear panel, upon which the bar folded up and took out the grille, radiator and bonnet of the vitara. Double fail. :D

Fair enough. The cars were both bought by me in Newcastle. So their origins could have come from somewhere similar.

The roll bars aren't awesome either, in the way they mount at least. A N/S hit on the main hoop shoved the mount down into wheel tub so now the bar sits tight against the B pillar and rattles against the seatbelt brace :x
