Hi,
Just have a continuing issue with rear axle seals leaking. Has anyone got any possibilities on what is causing this? I have replaced the drivers side rear 3 times andf the passenger side twice now. I thought I had fixed the problem this last time, as it has taken 3 weeks for it to start leaking now the passenger side is leaking.

This is a PITA and becoming annoying, brake shoes covered in diff oil, as well as having to go through the whole bleed the brake crap.
Can anyone help.

I have an Air locker in rear and am using Penrite 85/140 LSD oil. there is no visual wear on the bearing retainer where seal runs.
Is this diff oil to thick for the Zook diff.

I have heard this could be causing these issues, I have had a good look ver rear diff for signs of it being bent and couldn't find anything that would suggest that so!!!!
I forgot to mention I also have extended the diff breathers to the engine bay.

make sure the breathers are actualy working. to check for a bent diff the axles and centre must come out, then visualy look down the tubes. you will know if its bent by doing this.

When I installed the air I had the diff stripped and had a pretty good look down the tubes and couldn't see anything that would suggest it might be bent but I guess I could have another look over it.

Are you running an air in the rear? What oil do you use?

As mentioned above the two main causes for axle seals leaking are a blocked breather or a bent housing...
However...
I have seen quite a few newly installed axle seals leak due to lack of care when refitting the axles... The seals are EASILY damaged by sliding the axle on them.. Be very careful not to touch the axle against the seal when reinserting it.... Pre-greasing the seal helps too.


On a side note:
If you fit mini backing plates you can change an axle without touching your brakes. No mess.. No rebleeding..
