G'day,

Just wanting to know what parts you able to swap from a SWB vitara to a WT Sierra?

I know you can adapt the 1600 but anything else? like brakes, tank ....etc

Is there any point in buying one to wreck for parts or should I just spend the cash on a lwb?

Thanks
Lewis

parting out depends on what it costs you.

there isnt a huge amount that can be used on a sierra. brakes bolt on but arent any better than standard.
front diff gears can be used.

This is just my opinion, im a tightass.
Based off what I see at pickaparts over the years.
I dont know how vitara owners value things (which components are high demand), but I suspect similar

Manual, carby SWB vits arent really worth touching.
For all the effort itd need to be $200 or so for the car.

If they stay at a pick-a-part they normally sit there untouched for quite some time.

Maybe some demand on the thermoclutch fan, and powersteer
g16a is low low demand engine, value around $150ish... more if can be proven its good, if not... dont gamble
5.12 diff gears in front... hmm not very useful ... IF a buyer can be found... be lucky to get $50 (generally unwanted)
rear diff.. pretty much no demand (These sit in pickaparts for a real real long time) .. you may get a buyer if they are real desperate (whole diff drum-drum is sub $100 anyway).

The brakes on a swb vit are somewhat useful (means you dont lose your brake pads when the rotors get low, BUT is a PITA when bleeding brakes). If it can be sold, wouldnt be for much

SWB tank is 2L more than a sierra tank, and heaps of effort. Totally not worth it. If it can be sold, wont be for much.
P/steer - somewhat popular, posisbly get $250 for it, but might take over a year to find a buyer (unless its for you)

A SWB carby auto -
number one go to bits are the front 4.625 diff ratios (they are high demand) new aftermarket similar ratios are $180 ish, so still $50-100
thermo clutch -somewhat
p/steer - somewhat
trimatic very low demand
rear diff... bit more demand than the 5.12 (these sit in the pickaparts for a REAL long time)

A LWB vit is much better... if you look, they can be had between 600-1500.
Front brakes
EFI donk
Auto
Fuel tank internals
Some interior stuff

Hack the coil buckets off the chassis
hack the chassis where the steering box bolts up to

Thanks for that tanshi, it would have to be cheap for me to buy one for the carbi'd motor and p/s if thats really the only upgrades from it.
Thanks James, yeah looks like it wouldn't be worth it in the long run as I do want to go efi and bigger brakes etc.

You will get random people needing parts and panels etc over time and you can make a bit off wrecking a car, if you dont need anything.
But its a huge screw around, people wanting quotes and then disappearing, or get it wrapped up and they vanish, lots of low ball offers, lots of other annoying things etc.
Unless you have the time and space to store it and be patient with it, it'll really piss you off and be not worth the effort. And your left with a pile of parts and a shell to get rid of afterwards.

EDIT: if there's a few things you want, skip the whole parting car out thing, and keep an eye on the pickapart places in melb (they list their stock online etc) and just go get the parts you need.
4.625 diffs (whole 3rd member etc) can be picked for $50
diffs drum-drum = $108
diffs disc-disc = $138
calipers are like $60ish
thermo fans are $40
whole powersteering kits $108
etc

Oh if theres a GV with steel front diff.. itll be $80ish bargain :)

I know that all to well! I tried to part out my patrol ute about a year ago and had every muppet ring up and "buy" but of course they never showed, ended up just re buying the parts I sold and keeping it, somehow ended up ontop though...

the third members are alloy aswell.

you cant use rears unless you build custom diffs

usually you need to find two front sets

It'll get to the point the car will sit, and its not even worth pulling parts out of it for the amount someone offers you for it. I believe we are suzuki owners for reasons? So it is just easier to give it away once your done haha.

Im certainly not pulling out a front diff for 50 bucks for a ring and pinion. Unless that whole diff was steel and worth 400 :)

I was only after what parts I could take off it for my sierra really, but worth asking if anything was actually valuable I expected once I had the parts I wanted/ were useful it would either go to Sims or someone who wanted it lol
