To add to what royce said, real minis have the oil filter out the front where they get good airflow too. (well my clubman did anyway) Probably makes 2/5th of nothing difference, but every little bit counts.

So, anyone on here got an oil temp gauge on their zook? Anyone with a IR temp gun wanna go stick it at their oil filter after a thrash in the dunes or something?

I'll add that my mini whist not a monster engine was only ever driven hard and winter or summer, sump guard fitted or not (so totally blocking all airflow to the finned sump) there was never any difference in oil pressure or coolant temp, I didn't have an oil temp gauge fitted though, but the oil never looked bad.

Had a worked big block in a 4wd, bugger of a thing overheated constantly while working hard, new bigger radiator, new bigger fan, chemical engine flush, new water pump, big $$$, nothing worked, in the end I added Teflon, no more overheating.

Mini (REAL) engines share engine oil with gearbox,
Teflon is unwise, my motor loved it, but my gearbox synchros fell apart.
Can't be sure it was the teflons fault, though.

This was before I started using Mobil 1, was Penrite 20w50

Back when engines werent all that powerful, they used only the oil to cool the engine, no coolant. (huge oil capacities for the size of the engine)

But we started getting good at making power, and making waste heat, so water had to be introduced to help out.
