Starter is not starting car everytime and has a grinding sound sometimes, but sometimes sounds like it is just spinning and not shooting out. But pulled it out and it shoots out and spins everytime.
Getting it to start i have to give it a short burst of power and it gives a clunk sound as if its engaging then i have to catch that moment for it to turn the engine over.

Is this a standardish problem with these?
Is it my starter not shooting out enough? Maybe the drive in the starter is buggered? Are the teeth on it supposed to be like that?
Also i can move the shaft in the starter a few mm with just my hand. Should i be able to do that?
Can the ring gear get totalled enough to not start the engine? Does that mean a new flywheel? Is that a biggie?

These are the pics i could get. There was more of the gear a bit munched up but this was probably the worst bit that i could see.

I dont wanna buy a new Starter and it just start grinding away on me again so thats why the question... Fixable? or gearbox outable money spending shit ballsable job?
