my car is doing some weird stuff at the moment.
WT sierra with vitara 8v carby motor still with the vitara sump.
i check the oil most days before starting it and some times there is
no oil on the stick so i will add a bit (200ml). then the next day it
will be way over full, then the next day it will be on the low mark, it
is like a completely random dipstick. is there something going on
or should i just stop checking the oil. how much oil does the vit 8v sump
hold?

the other thing it does is when it is first started in the
morning, in neutral and the clutch pedal on the floor the car
leaps forward about 30cm. WTF is going on here. wouldn't mind
sorting this out cos i keep running in to my other car.

Have you done any water crossing lately? Sounds like the clutch plate is sticking to the flywheel. Or maybe not adjusted properly? Or catching on the input shaft?
The oil is a strange one. Does the dipstick go all the way in? Does the tube move up and down when you are pulling the dipstick out? Is Ball playing with your head?

haven't done any water crossings lately but the cable is only a few months old so may need readjusting.

the dipstick and tube fit properly and don't move. the only thing that i can think off is my suspension is very soft. sticking a
jerry can in the back makes it sit down by 25mm so maybe the crap i keep in the car is affecting the level on the dipstick.

what oil would ya recommend for a 1.6 8v that has a fairly hard time in hot weather? i am using 10w40 semi synthetic at
the moment but only as my other car uses the same oil.

10W40 is probably a bit thin, maybe 15w40 would be a better bet, and just a mineral oil is fine. I wouldn't imagine a bit of weight in the back would effect the level that much.

i had the no oil issue aswell, i put 4L in and nothing, then another 2L and still nothing. I just assume that it is being wiped off the stick as i pull it out and is very clean so can't see it anyway. But i know there's 6L in there somewhere

Sounds like your parking it on uneven ground everytime you check it?

Maybe you have an oil gremlin..

i check the oil in the same place most mornings, i think that there is more of
a chance of an uneven car. my sierra randomly leans in different directions.

is the oil warning light a pressure or level warning?
