Just curious if a 12,000lb winch would fit in an ARB bar?
Its just that the TIGERZ 12,000 comes in at 23kg with rope
Dont know if there would be enough room.

should be, though there will be no warranty on the bar or fixing points etc. if its plasma i hope you know how to sew on the side of the track

my 6500 has the same motor and stuff as the 12000 it just has
a smaller spool, it fitted in a arb bar no worries. what is the
overall length of your winch i can run a tape over the bar for ya. i
recon the main issue is the bar to chassis mounts or at least
that's what kept braking on my old non winch arb bar.

I havent got one yet, just looking at the moment. The weight it what is attracting me too it and price ofcourse.
Its dimensions are (L×W×H)(562×160×218mm)
Joe not sure that mine would be under warranty anyway, it was secondhand.

Why on earth do you want a 12,000lb wich on a sierra? That's gonna be one slow winch. Exploit the lightness of a sierra with a 6,000lb winch, have twice the speed and if you really ned the capacity just run a snatch block.
Seriously every time a winch comes out it seems slow. On most recoveries, where you can nearly drive, that winch is going to drive you mad.

Hmmm, i might be reading the line pull readings wrong then coz its faster than the warn 6000 and the tmax 6500?
I may be missing something here?
The winch will mainly be for if i get stuck solo, which may happen on an up coming trip with trailer in tow. So as long as i get out speed aint a factor.
And there aint to many in the 6000 size that are in that price bracket and weight range, some unknown chinese ones nice and cheap, but no feedback on them unlike the tigerz. hence looking at that size.

is plasma really that bad? i have never had anything to do with plasma string but i thought it
was the go. i have been considering putting plasma on a high mount winch that i have.
chop it should fit mate it is only 100mm longer then my 6500.
if you do fit it, do some strengthening to the bar mounts.

All dimensions found on their site.
http://www.tigerz11.com.au/
Got one of these on the front of mine. Their weight is what attracted me too. Oh and the price. Used it twice so far. The freespool selector is my only gripe amost impossible to move. Sloow out and slow in. All mounting holes looked pretty standard.

Be careful when talking about synthetic rope. Plasma is a brand name and not a synthetic fibre name.
Tigerz use UHMWPE or Ultra High molecular weight polyethylene. the rope is manufactured in Korea and sold to the Chinese who don't really know how to make rope according to my sources. It is 10mm in diameter and breaking strain of 7500kg.
Amsteel Blue is another fibre, as is Dyneema a kevlar based fibre and the strongest on the market. Dyneema SK75 at 10mm comes in at 10700kg breaking strain.
Cable is so old school it shouldn't even be considered on an electric winch especially a sierra. compare 30m cable to 30m rope and the difference in weight is around 12kg.
Abrasion and UV resistance of rope isn't as good as cable but can be easily avoided with a bit of planning during a winch recovery.

I like steel cable , it provides good ballast on the front for driving up stuff, that's what a winch is for isn't it

At what load?
Tigerz:
Load Speed ft/m Motor (Amps)
0 33.3ft 85
4000 16.8ft 158
6000 12.8ft 231
12000 7.6ft 450
450X12=5400 watts
23Kg with plasma
Warn
Now bear in mind the warn motor is rated at 4.8hp
Load Speed amps
0 48.5 85 amps
2000 23.7 175 amps
4000 12.9 360 amps
6000 10.0 465 amps
5580 watts @ 6000lb.
This is pretty confusing. The higher rated winch consumes less power with a higher "rated" motor at full load, with 20% more gearing, but can pull twice the load?
tigerz seems to me to be good product for the money, but you can't cheat the physics. Compared to the warn, tjhe tigerz is apparently massively more efficient. That makes me suspisciousm especially as if all things are equal, the higher gear reduction of the tigerz winch much absorb more power.
In any case, up to about 3000lb (my guess), which is where most of your winching will be, the warn will be the faster, lighter, easier to fit, more trustworthy winch IMHO. At no load the warn is over 40% faster. At 6000lb, the warn is only 24% slower than the tigerz at the same load, yet the tigerz is suing 1/2 the power?
You'd really be surprised how light most recoveries are and how much of a drag a slow winch is. If you don't need the rating... you need the speed.
I'm not having a go at all, but you'll find these chinese winches are generally very, very slow to get a high rating and protect the lower quality components.
I think the 6000lb warn is the ideal sierra winch. It's also the winch ARB designed the bar for.
Steve.

not only that kenn, but how many combined trips have we been on?.......i still have my original cable.........i know you do too. and how many times have we been held up from a broken 'synthetic type pulling device' kenn?

The last winch comp i filmed i counted 7 snaped winch shoe laces 1 of them 3 times in a row on 1 stage , oh and the guy with steel cable won that stage .

anyone know why they break so much? Poorly cared for? misused? maybe cut up on rocks?
I have a 8000lb winch on the back of the zook using Dynamica rope (Dyneema). I only put the rope on when 4wding. It's still in pretty new condition. I've never used it in the mud, only on rocks recovering broken patrols, and winching up steep rockslabs. Never had a problem with it (but only used it maybe 10 times in 3 years).

I've seen plenty of plasma fail in competition due to dragging the rope on the ground under load. That shouldn't be a significant problem on a recreational winch as there's no time limit, and the driver shouldn't be throttling hard whilst on the winch and therefore sliding laterally whilst winching with the rope on the ground/rock.
I've seen wire rope fail on a recreational winch and it's scary as hell. Thankfully it didn't hit anyone on that occasion.
Plasma/dyneema is the way to go.
Steve.

Ive seem plenty of rope used in real winch comps, not the electric mud drags they have in Vic and out of 20+ cars and 10 stages youd be lucky to see 5 breaks I reckon
you need to go a bit bigger in diameter compared to rope and look after it and think what you are doing but the stuff works fine, they dont like being dirty or hot and you can tell when it will snap (like a highmount with a 6hp motor on 24v stalling) but otherwise I reckon the fact that if it snaps YOU WONT DIE is pretty handy
as for specs and speed and China and all that, they are like second hand cars, you look after it its fine, you dont maintain a warn it will be shit too

I run 6mm plasma rope on a 6000lb winch (4500kg load rated) and its been in there a while now no drama's and I get nearly half as much again on the drum as with cable.
its had a hideing and is still good as steve has seen, It got a good workout on everything from zooks to a patrol and jeep a month or two ago
I think its the way to go if you care for your stuff and no splinters but if you just abuse your shit forget it.
ps splicing rope is pretty easy once you know how its done.

something most of the guys up here have is a splicing tool, sort of bullet shaped thing with a BSP thread in the back of it, screw the rope in the hole and thread the splice with it, I will get a pic next time I am near one

I have a tigerz11 12,000 lb synthetic rope winch on my zook in a new arb bar and other then having to cut where the small hole is for the warns clutch handle and drill two new holes for the hawse lead it is a good fit.
The winch is slow but you get used to it, if i was after a fast winch i woulda got a souped high mount. I would buy another tigerz11 winch because i believe they are good value for money and as long as you look after it it will serve you well.
