no rush i got some goatskin coming from the UK real cheap, just need 20 inch circle for now if you have brumby handy, probably need more in the future if it all works out.

Synthetics are good as they are generally atmospherically stable so you tune them once in forever. Traditional hides expand and contract with moisture and temperature, usually its best to leave them in the sun or hit them with a hairdryer rather than constantly retightening them until splitting. Having said that i have yet to see a conga that sounded good with synthetic skins. Also Atabaques (a conga variant common in Caopeira circles) looks more aestheically pleasing if the fur is still on the edges

When you said 20" diameter, first thought was for a raw-hide shield facing.
Would have got to drums sooner or later.
