[Critical Energy]

Hi all,

I have some W/T diffs for my ute but they need a coat of paint. Whats the best stuff to use? Was just going to use supercheap chassis paint but i've heard POR15 is the best?

Ah cool, that POR15 is bloody expensive.

Is killrust just at bunnings and the like?

I use ordinary crap black paint. It stays black, but loses its quality after a few dirty trips. And needs to be painted after a few trips worth of diff scratching and smashing.

Bunnings have dropped the Killrust brand. They only sell White Knight.

Killrust is available thru Mitre10, Super Cheap Auto (who have a sale on the stuff this week!) and Lowes.

Note - Killrust is just a brand. There is no 'killing of rust' or any rust protection that goes on, any better than any other spray can paint that is.

i used black "RustGuard" spray cans on my rear bumper about 4 years ago - while its faded to a dark grey matt finish, there's certainly no signs of corrosion - and considering i used it as both paint and primer with no clear coat i think thats pretty impressive. I use the same stuff to touch up my front bar and also to touch up scrapes on the body...

The rustguard packaging does say that it has a chemical reaction to prevent rust, never looked into it properly - it may well just be paint, but it does seem to do the trick.

I vote KillRust too.

The benefit comes from its durability, also the finish stays good for a very long time

Yes Wayne Killrust is just a brand name but it is an Alkyd Enamel which is a lot different paint to your run of the mill general purpose aerosol paints. Hence 3 X the price.
Killrust works fine without a primer, how long do you think regular aerosol paint without primer will keep your parts from rusting? Not long at all.

Killrust, Rustguard, White Knight, Rustoleum... There are quite a few brands of the same stuff.

Sweet I've got half a tin of white knight stuff left over from interior.

Looks like the diffs will be charcoal metallic!
