Hi all,

Does anyone know what two hoses are supposed to connect to this on the back of a standard 1.3 carb? (Just above the accelerator cable connection)

My last carby had all the choke bits ripped off it so i have no idea

mate they are the auto choke hose connections. disregards my last pm!

If i recall correctly, water flows from the intake manifold through the carby, into the heater core through the heater water flow adjuster next to the master cylinder and back out the other pipe comign out of the firewall and back into the carby, if you get what I mean.

Just thought i'd paste the diagram here for reference.

Think I've got the hoses all sorted!

Does anyone know where I can get the spring that goes between the choke-butterfly shaft and the dog tooth winder/actuator at the back of the carb? I think the diagram calls it the choke valve strangler spring (upper right diagram, Number 3)



Also is the brown arm in the following photo, thats shaped a bit like a Y and has two small holes in it, supposed to connect to anything? Or does it just hang from the choke butterfly shaft?

The water flow on mine is:
motor to choke wax pellet, choke to carb base plate, base plate to motor.

Other I have seen do not have a water connection to the base plate, and it is just motor to choke wax pellet, to motor.

I don't think the tubes that go to the wax pellet have an in and and out. either way round is fine.


That spring that turns the choke butterfly was not available from Suzuki when I asked, so I would try a wrecker or carburetor repair joint. Aim sure lots of Aisins are similar so a carburetor repair joint would be worth a try.

im also having some problems with my carby.

could I ask you if that brown Y shaped arm u mentioned moves freely for you, ie. does it go up then drop back down when you let it go? mine goes up when I push it up but takes a nudge for it to drop back down. seems to be getting stuck, probly from some grease or something. my carby is covered in crap and yours looks pretty clean.

so should that Y shaped arm be moving freely and not getting stuck and would it cause the engine to stall if it wasnt working properly?

mines only moving freely because its missing the spring at the top.
And yes, i could cause your engine to stall. Take off your intake on the top of the carby and you'll notice that linkage operates the choke valve/butterfly thing.

There will be a spur/tooth drive thing at the back of that shaft, the spring is meant to go between the two to link them together, so that the valve slowly opens (disables choke) as the engine warms up...

yeh I figured that much out.

the bit that holds the spring on (at the dog tooth end) has snapped off but I reattached it into another notch. what way is the spring meant to pull the flap??

in my previous post I was actualy refering to that little bar under the spring with holes in it that looks like it's meant to attach to sonething. does anyone know wot that's actualy meant to do??

You are talking about the auto choke mechanism?

When the carburetor is cold, the spring holds the choke plate closed.
When the wax pellet expands, is moves the lever out which in turn moves the plastic gear the spring is wound over, moving the end of the spring which opens the choke plate.

Well, I have tried to purchase that spring from Suzuki in the past, and was told it is a non serviceable part - it ain't available.

I would inquire at your local carburetor repair shop. failing that a lot of people take the Aisin's off to put a Weber on.
Maybe someone here has one kicking around?

Does anyone know how to re-install the small plastic gear/spring mechanism shown above?

I took mine off and replaced it with a spare (better spring) but I'm not sure where to refit the gear along the toothed section, so I have the correct spring tension.

Sorry for the crap explanation, I have the dumb.
