Tested the prototype directly against a stock vit ECU. It's pretty darn close so should work well!
This is how you set things up to go crazy!

Prototype on the left, vit 57B ECU set up to run on the bench in the center and throttle body with TPS for mock throttle inputs on the right interfaced to both the prototype and ECU.

CRO traces showing the signals from the vit ECU (top) and prototype emulating the signals for the AW4 at idle. Within 5% so nearly dead spot on! Pretty confident it shall work
Just got to clean up the code a bit and install in a FZ ute to see what else it needs for final schematics and coding before PCBs are made.

I bolted my engine back in today. Got to put the supercharger back on and break in the new motor before the Aw4 goes in. Will probably fit the auto a month after Tuff Truck.

Took roughly a hour to assemble that board! Worst offender was Q1 which is only 1.2x1.8mm and has 6 pins hanging out of it, each only 0.2mm wide. Powered the board up and the magic smoke was contained luckily. Connected it up the the PC and wrote some test code for the microprocessor and tested the I/O for a sanity check.
All systems go! Now to write the software!

Box is 50x50x15mm. Hopefully that's not too big to find a home under the dash somewhere

Not taking anything away from Jr's achievement, but you shouldn't need one to shift an AW-4 behind a Baleno G16B. Connect the correct wires to the Vitara TCM and it will shift fine.

I have driven a car with a Baleno motor with a Jimny cam, Jimny manifolds and ECU and Vitara TCM. It shifts fine.

Baleno coil pack and Jimny EFI is effectively identical so I can't see why it wouldn't work for a Baleno ECU.

Still got the first batch of units here and some test code. Really need a stock auto vitara to have a quick play with so I can double check that they will work as intended.

Nearing the end of my PhD thesis so once thats out of the way I can finish these.

A question for the electronic magicians .

I have a 4age, neither here nor there, but putting an aw4 behind it, could I run it so it's basically a manual? Like I use the gearstick to put it into 1st to third then press an od switch and or lockup switch as well.
or even a shifter with + and - on it and just knock up and down gears.

I'm not really bothered trying to make it shifter like a proper auto it's a weekend car and I basically drive mine like a manual now with the auto that's in it.

So the question is, is any of this possible how hard would it be if I just grabbed an auto out of a donor with the wiring would it be that hard to wire up, I feel like it should be fairly straightforward just knowing what wires trigger tthe solenoids etc.

There are manual shifters available for the AW4 - check the jeep forums - and yes, it's just a matter of knowing which solenoid to energize in what sequence. You still need to have the stock shifter because that's what selects neutral, reverse, park & drive.

you should be able to shift the aw4 style gearbox with the t-bar without the tcm connected.

you just wont be able to ever get 2nd gear

I am not 100% sure on the solenoid sequence but I do not see why you could not shift as you describe . I have done this on a couple of toyota auto's and one nissan box . All were not road legal trucks thou and the nissan we did the other way around ie 1st on the shifter was second and if he wanted first he flicked the o/d switch . If the suzuki is the same as the toyota and jeep AW4 sequience then in drive you power the second solenoid through the o/d switch . To go from 3rd to 4th just cut power to the solenoid with the o/d switch .

Another option you could look into is the Jeep aucto ecu controller . I have not done this so only internet talk here but this side of the ditch a few guys have used these when they reengine there toyotas or remove the ecu on there diesels . In some toyotas the auto is controlled by the ecu . The jeep controller has no inputs to the engine ecu , seems to just use a throttle position sensor and speed sensor in the tranny .

When I get the suzuki up and running I will look into this as I want the AW4 auto but not the suzuki engine ecu .

I'm getting a AW4 is there anyway to adapt this to work on a G16A?

You will need a Suzuki derrived AW4, TCM and one of these. On the G16A you will need to retrofit a throttle position sensor to the butterfly shaft to provide input for this black box. They are still in test and development stage tho. I really need a stock Suzuki AW4 auto vehicle to verify and test these units on.

I'm very keen on one of these but i'll need to find a TCM as i dont think my AW4 will come with one.
