Looking for a good DIY for a bodylift in a swb vitara

no such thing, as a good DIY kit.

just buy a kit unless you have the skills to make female bolts it's just not worth it.

X2. You can't safely/properly make a body lift for a Vitara/Sierra without access/skills to use a lathe. If you have access to a lathe and know how to use it then you don't need us to tell you how - it's pretty self explanatory.

No lathe= Just buy a kit.

I want to read over a install, before deciding wether im am going to DIY or am i going to let a workshop supply & fit a kit

It's a DIY job In my opinion so long as you have some mechanical ability and access to a couple of trolley jacks etc.

It can be done slowly and carefully with trolley jacks and hand tools in about 10 hours.

from memory shops charge about $800 fitting as it ties up a lift for nearly a day.

yep agree 100% with steve, can be done in a day if you've got help.

i don't think we're got a dedicated bodylift how to on here, but some of the build threads have a bit of info here & there.

maybe shoot just_cruizin & if you ask nicely he MIGHT send you a copy of his instructions...

I don't think Greg would just give away his instructions after all the effort he put into it with his kit.
He sends the instructions with the great kits he sells.

x3 i've fitted 2 of his vitara bodylifts & they are a kwality kit

even having a two poster at my disposal, doing the BL by myself was just as hard as doing it in the drive way with some trolley and scissor jacks.

problem with the two poster was that the arms were too long to put under the floor to balance the body properly. so even though the hoist lifts the body even left to right, reducing the chance of bending the body studs, I still had to lift the back end by other means.

I suppose a SWB soft top would be ok, but the added steel and glass of a LWB made it a bit awkward.

It did a body lift by myself. Never again... I ran into so many issues with the body shifting and not it's isn't even on the chassis straight.

For future reference I did it bush mechanic style ahahha

I got a long peuce of wood quite thick and just log enough to fit under the body but not to long so it doesn't hit the sills
Then I just got 2 sissor jacks under the wood and jacked up the back. Then did the same with the front and just moved the bit of wood

I even put the jacks on milk crates so I had enough height.

It was super dodgy and probly the most unsafe thing I have ever done on a car and I will never do it again. But I was limited to what I had and didn't have a lot of time and stupidly I removed all the bolts before I thought about how to actually do the lift

I would just pay someone. Or get your hands on a few high lift jacks would save so much time

I guess my idea would work but without the milk crates ahahahahah maybe a stack of bricks or something depends how bogans spec you want to do it

didn't the instructions with your kit say to do one side, then the other?

Yeah to did but I found if I did one side the body would move way to much. I think with a hoist or high lift jacks one side at a time would work a lot better but the way I did it wasn't that easy

Yep, a stack of bricks is so much better than a milk crate

Even hilift jacks wouldn't be that great. Scissor jack on a stump is about as redneck as I would want to go.

i did a 3" body lift twice on my old green swb vitara, then a 2" on a 95 swb vitara, then a 2" on two 91 Lwb vitara's.

it's so much better with a just cruzin kit.
