Hey,
apparently this is really easy to do, but it would be great if some of you helped me out a little here...

I need to install a new speedometer cable into my 96 Sierra. I have the cable and everything needed, its just i dont want to break anything in the process and I want to make sure I do it all right.

I have tried to take the dash off around the steering wheel though it gets stuck/ doesnt go over the hazard switch. How do I go about getting that off?

If you could help me with the process of this install that would be great!

Drop the steering column. Two T30 (I think) bolts, just a bit further down the column from the plastic surround. This will give you just enough room to pull the cluster back enough to give you just enough room to plug the cable in.
Then through the fire wall and you should be able to work it out from there (ie same as the one you took out).

BUT, before you remove the old one just check that it hadn't popped out from the back of the cluster first.

Sierra speedo cables don't go through the firewall.

I've changed a few without removing the cluster or dropping the column.
The only thing that is sometimes difficult is the routing of the original cable above the heater box making it hard to remove.

I got it all done, but it was quite a struggle trying to get it behind the heater. But its done, though I went driving with a GPS which tells me the exact speed and its reading 10km slow...

Any idea how to fix this?
