Hi all
I recently pick up 98 Maruti trayback ute, with the stock 1.0l engine and running gear. It has a 2" lift and 31s.
I will mainly be using it as a camping rig and daily driver, so im looking to have it a bit more drivable on the highway (as much as possible for the 1.0l). as it currently sits i love the little 1.0l motor but with the 31s and stock gearing its a little undrivable, offroad and mainly on.

i am thining about dropping some transfer gears in but i am unsure what is the best ratio to run, i previously owned a SWB on 31s with 6.5 transfer gears which i found awesome in the bush but reved a little high on the highway. im not to worried about the 1.0l reving (everything i have read says they love it) mainly just getting it geared properly.

i have had a search but i couldnt find to much relating to Maruti's running the stock engine, only a little on the 4.16 gears highrange being the same as the current transfer gears.

so what gears would be best suited for a Maruti ute with a 1.0l motor, 4 speed, stock transfer and 31s?

6.5s, but even those wont get you as many revs as when it was stock. 1l transfers were geared so low from the factory that transfer gears just don't make that much of a difference to high range. You be better off with some LJ diff gears if you have a NT or Vitara gears if you have a WT.

The only transfer gears that will correct it are the 7.9s from the UK.

Bugger converting to a G motor, F motors fo' lyfe.

i have a 1.6efi in the swb so it was a bit of a shock to the system jumping in the 1,0l especially on cold mornings, but im loving the little engine and want to stick with it atm.
as for the gears i might try the 6.5s from the swb and see how they go in the ute. is is just a case of swapping flanges over?

Yep, just swap the flanges and it all goes together. :)

Another question, is it possible to upgrade the brakes to a boosted setup from a 1.3?
