I'm very disappointed at the moment and also feeling bad as I may have messed around a member on here.

This weekend I was due to travel from brisbane to Coffs to look at and hopefully buy my first zook.

I was looking at members "its u its me" 1994 sierra. Condition seems good and while its not the cheapest on the market I was excited I was going to get a good one.

To be sure it was all ok I had provisionally sent e mails to modplaters with links to his ad on here and been told by them it could be modplated ok if I put stock shackles and wheels on it.

So I had sourced some wheels and shackles. Booked my accomodation in coffs and train ride down.

Then today i got an email saying that I will need a swerve test as it has a 2"body and 2" suspension lift combined. I have been told this will cost about $1000 and no guarantees it will pass.

Called another guy called David Blythe and he confirmed that you can't have both together without this test.

I know it's confusing but I thought I had checked and was sure it was ok.

Anyone on here know different. I obviously don't want to buy a vehicle I can't register. I guess I could remove the body lift but not sure what this involves. Equally I may as well buy a stock one by the time I've done the wheels shackles and removed the lift.

Bloody red tape. I'm gutted.

Depending on the tyre size that you need to run or that the vehicle already has you might not need it to be lifted that much. Low is the new lift. There's many different ways to fit big tyres with minimal lift, for example a guard chop wont need a lane change test. You might need a mod plate for the body mods but its not the end of the world.

There's people on here that have 31's with just a spring lift and extended bump stops or 31's with just a 2" body lift. A body lift isn't too hard to remove if you have a few jacks, it could easily be done in a day.

Cheers for the help guys. It's all new to me and so far this site has been really informative and friendly.
I've always liked the zook look and am keen to learn to do some off roading in the future..
Fatzook and others have given me some advice and I'm truly grateful.

I'm not desperate to run the 31s regularly. Will put stock wheels on to use daily and then use the 31s when playing at weekends once done a gearing change.

I know it's sad but I kind of like the look with the body lift. Mini monster truck look so was hoping to keep it.
But if it has to come off so be it I guess.

It wasn't the cheapest to begin with but looks in good condition. By the time I've changed wheels shackles and modplated seats etc it was adding up. That's another reason I was hoping to keep the lift as I'm no mechanic and so would expecting to have to pay someone to remove the lift.

If its simple I can have a go I service my motorbikes but that's about my limit.

Anyway I'm going to go see it as planned on sunday and see what happens.
Fingers crossed I may have a zook soon and then I will be hassling you guys further

Not sure about the rest of Australia, but if you want to go over the pits in WA it is a lane change test for more than 50mm of total lift (including tyres)- http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/ ... _ncop.aspx
The chances of getting caught if you don’t have to go over the pits seem pretty slim though judging by the cars I see every day.
