Hi all, I just had some Lightforce 240 Blitz' installed on my Jimny and I was wondering if someone could help me out? The issue I'm having is that when I turn on my spotlights they appear to be quite dim. However, when I brake, the lights become significantly brighter and I'm not too sure why... The same thing happens if I've had a read of this thread: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1108, but as I didn't install them, I'm not too sure where the issue could be... Has anyone heard of something like this happening before, or where I should start looking?

yeah could be, i've always earthed to the body & as close to the lights as possible. eg radiator support panel or somewhere similar.

Looks like it might be the earth Atari.
They've earthed it to the radiator support panel, but it's not clean metal, it's the powder coated panel at the back. I'll relocate it and see if it fixes it : )

definitely an earth issue, but i'd guess the main earth from the battery negative terminal to the body isn't sufficiently big enough.
i had an almost identical issue with my old sierra, but it was the clutch instead of the brake. the standard earth for the battery to the body is tiny, but theres another major earth that earths to the starter, which is obviously connected to the engine/transmission. in my case the clutch cable was earthing the transmission to the body since the engine itself uses rubber engine mounts. but only when the cables pulled tight it actually earths. im assuming it's something similar with brakes...
as atari said, it does need clean bare metal so worth checking both definitely.

This is pointing to a problem with the engine to battery negative connection, rather than the body to battery negative - as is the original poster's problem - if it were a body to battery issue, the light would get dimmer rather than brighter - the increase in brightness is caused by a variation in the alternator to battery negative voltage caused by the bad ground.
