I put 235's on my jimny, then put the speedo pick up on the input of the tcase, then had a speedo that read 145kph, when i was doing 100kph

It' a pretty simple kit that has everything you will need, It is a DIY kit so you have to solder every diode and resistor in. It also has 1.5m of wiring, so you could mount it in your glove box if you want. It can be adjusted from 1%-99% up and down.

To install it into your jimny find your VSS wire (yellow with a green trace)



Snip it and use the harness end of the wire as your input for the kit and the plug end of the wire for the output. In the jaycar kit instructions it will show you how to program the unit, then how to set it to your desired settings.

I chucked mine in a BigW container with 4 holes and mounted it up under the dash near the accelerator pedal.





I did clean up the zipties and wiring haha

i don't know how else it would be picking up signal to count so yes, unless someone knows otherwise....

that's strange that you put larger tyre's on and had a greater speedo reading it should of been smaller, around 85-90km/h for 100km/h it would only be larger if you put smaller tyre's on.

but good work on the kit, i have the same kit just haven't put it together yet was thinking for a permanent solution to actually make a new speedo gear, to replace the original gear on the output shaft.

why would you?

Im going to drill a small hole in the box big enough for a screw driver to slide in, so when i have my 31s on i can just change the speedo to suit my tyres, a seriously 20sec job. With a solid gear under there it is unchangable....

I did this on my GV, works a treat. I only hooked it up to the speedo and not to the ecu as I believe the air bags are connected to the ecu some how and didn't want to mess with them. I did want to as I have an electronic automatic and it would have adjusted the gear changes to.

Larger tyres would have the effect you describe Blakey. But he also moved the speedo pickup to the other end of the transfer case.The input side of the case spins faster. The effect from this change is much bigger (and opposite direction) than the change from the tyres. So when all said and done it still sees a faster reading even with the bigger tyres compensating a little bit.

What he should have done was cram some 37s under and his speedo would have been pretty close

Just looking through the manual to determine if mine is electrical signal speed sensor and it looks like it is. but i cant figure out which model mine is in the service book.

there is:

SN413
Jimny (SN413)
Jimny (SN415)

im guessing mine is a 413, but which one?

All Jimnys are electric speedo from a sensor in the back of the transfer.

Nothing wrong with the box you used but for a neater finish Jaycar also have a range of enclosures for their kits.

I notice you have an 02 GV. Do you think this kit would work the same on a 05GV (same shape as yours)??

its the plug that goes into the dash cluster its literally something like 4 screws to get the cluster out. then you can get to the plug.

On a side note I tried to get one of these at jaycar this week to make sure I had it for when I need it. They are all out at the moment because they had the wrong transistors in the kit and were waiting for the correct type.
Just in case someone has one that isn't working.

I am no expert but I'm guessing you could trace the wire coming back from the sensor on the transfer case and tap into it somewhere after it enters the cabin again? Realistically though just find the wiring diagram and work out which colour wire you need to splice the thing into because it needs 12v power to work so you're going to want it to be up under the column/dash somewhere where you can pick up all the wires you need not JUST the signal.

It really shits me to see such a poor wiring job. Will have a look at pulling the dash out tomorrow and see what I come up with. I need to rewire the spotlight switch and CB so may as well make a day of it. "Electric Sunday"
