Hi all, need some help with the Gti into Sierra. I know it's been covered and the wiring diagrams are out there but a bit new to this and don't even know where to start, is the stock Sierra loom used and the Gti wired into it or other?
Any tips/advice/guide?
I know the killa Kustoms do a loom but we have plenty of time and thought we would give it a crack.
Also another question. There is 3 fuel lines from the tank, 1 goes to a black canister under the bonnet (is it the charcol canister?) which then led to the carby. Where will this go on the new motor or can it be scrapped and if so do you just plug the line up? (Note the Gti motor is turbo)

What MK is the engine? MK1 only controls fuel injection. The ignition remains the samee. You just have to tap into the dizzy for the rpm input for the ecu.
MK2/3 controls both fuel and ignition. You have to replace the dizzy with one that works with the ecu. Search for which one works.
You take out very little of the original sierra loom . The thing is what you don't need in the GTi loom. Keep searching and reading. This forum and others too. Redline GTi has qite a few wiring diagrams. I did about 2 weeks reseach before I started mine. Remeber there aren't many wires when you look at them 1 at a time and take your time.
For the fuel lines. The one that runs to the charcol canister I connected to a smal filter and left it open to atmosphere. The other 2, I connected the larger one to the inlet side of the fuel rail, and the smaller one to the outlet of the fuel rail.

thanks boys, yep I already have the 323 dizzy, angled thermostat and other required goodies. just trying to get my head around thw wiring, pretty keen to give it a crack myself I pickup most things fairly easy.
Its a MK3 engine.
"For the fuel lines. The one that runs to the charcol canister I connected to a smal filter and left it open to atmosphere." Ok good to know I can do something similar, I will rip it out... what sort of filter did you put on there?

I just finished mine. You will need to make a plate that will hold the thermostat against the engine side of the thermostat housing. And you will have to modify and use the rotor button and cap from a 1988 Mazda 323 turbo awd. I will post more about the wiring tomorrow. Hope this helps.

Thanks mate I already have all that covered, really keen to hear about the wiring, just need to get my head around it and figure out where to start. I have the wiring diagrams but when ya don't know what ya need to connect I can't get very far.
I have the full loom including ecu and fuse box, I just need to figure out what goes where and what exactly I need to splice in and connect up.
* what part of the stock loom do I connect to Gti * what part of Gti connects to the car/dash. * where abouts I connect it all * how to wire fuel pumps
Also the new 323 dizzy has the leads labled 1234, which lead goes to which piston? Does it start at the front of the motor and go back 1234

The part of the wiring you need in the sierra is only the engine part of loom. But you need the noise suppressor and the igniter plug and module out of the other half of the loom.

I will sit down tonight and write down which pin outs from the ecu go where from you. By the way where ignition starts at 1 it goes anti clock wise 1 - 3 - 4 - 2

You should be ok tho, if you can read a wiring diagram, its very doable. When I did mine, it was my first time and I had no issues to speak of.

Alright,
Hot at all times 20 amp single fused wire needs to be run to the power side (Not the switching side) of the two relays used for EFI and Fuel Pump. Then from the other pin of the power side of the efi main relay run it to the fuel pump relays power side and run the remaining relays pin to the fuel pump. From the the wire that runs inbetween the two relays splice a wire out to the the white wire with the blue trace. (Note: you only need to splice it in once because this wire is spliced out to ECU Pinout A1, A2, C2, C7 wires)
Hot at all times 15 amp fused wire needs to be spliced onto the white wire of ECU Pinout A16.
Ignition based 15 amp fuse needs to run the efi and fuel pump relay switch pins. (Note: Use the same wire spliced into two) Then the ground side of the EFI relay needs to be spliced in ECU pinout B8 which is white with black trace. The ground side of the fuel pump relay needs to be spliced onto ECU Pinout B13 which is pink with white trace.
Using your original coil both brown with white trace wires from the noise suppressor and igniter need to be spliced onto the negative side of the coil. Splice the brown wire from the noise suppressor into ECU Pinout A12. Splice the igniters brown with yellow trace wire into ECU pinout C6. Both the Ignitors and noise suppressors black wires go to earth.
Leave the original power wire on the coil and it should fire and pulse now.
As for the cap, when you looking at the top of the cap with the posts facing up the post to the left of the middle post is number 1 and it goes anti clockwise 1- 3 - 4 - 2
hope this helps.

Ok, if I wanted to simplify the fuel pump wiring, could I simply run a whole new relay in the engine bay with just power/earth and trigger from the ignition wire?
or does it absulutely require to use the ECU trigger/wiring?
as I have new 40amp fused relay / harness and appropriate wiring laying around from another project.

Yes, you can run a separate power to the fuel pump. But, the efi relay must power the white with blue trace wire otherwise ecu will not power up

Thanks mate, between you and Matty I have learnt a shit load so far on something I never had a clue about. an extremely stupid question, so don't laugh too hard,
Hot at all times 20 amp Hot at all times 15 amp
Where to I tap into these at? under the dash or direct from the battery?
also, a little confused about exactly what i need to run to the gti fuse box. it connects to the wireing harness fine but has been cut where I assume it connects to earth/battery. does this tap into existing harness or run it direct to the battery?

Yea straight from the battery. Gti fuse isn't necessary in this mod. It's usually cut off anyway.

Hey guys, I have stripped the harness, so making some progress, just need some advice on the below; 1: EFI/Fuel relays - ok 2: Whats this? 3: assuming this is all to the gti cluster so not needed? 4: Noise supressor? 5: Fan - can I remove? (im running clutch fan) 6: Whats this (maybe diagnostic port?) 7: Whats this? Attachment: IMG_1180.JPG On 1: This is where I will, a: Hot at all times 20 amp single fused wire needs to be run to the power side of the two relays. b: From the other pin of the power side of the efi main relay run it to the fuel pump relays power side and run the remaining relays pin to the fuel pump. c: From the the wire that runs inbetween the two relays splice a wire out to the the white wire with the blue trace. (Note: you only need to splice it in once because this wire is spliced out to ECU Pinout A1, A2, C2, C7 wires) Does this look right? Attachment: EFI.jpg

Red line is correct.
Blue line would leave the relay on all the time and blow the ignition fuse, so don't do that.
Yellow line is wrong, EFI relay switching ground need to go to ECU Pinout B8 which is white with black trace. and fuel pump relay ground needs to go to ECU Pinout B13 which is pink with white trace.
Number 4 is noise suppressor and you will need the connecter and wiring for it.
On the coil there is an ignitor, you will need it and the connector and wiring with it.
You do not need GTI cluster.
Hot at all time 20 amp wire only needs to be run to the power side of the efi relay then to the fuel pump relay then to the fuel pump. from the the wire inbetween the relays splice it intween the white wire with blue trace.

Cool mate I will do the red line for power.
sorry, what do I splice into the white/blue? Is it the remaining switch pin on the EFI main Relay?

The red line is the relay activation wire. When you run the efi relay power out to the fuel pump relay power in pin, splice the wire in between the two relays on to the white wire with blue trace. Yes use the seirra coil

Hey guys, where do you mount your ECU? Des dash need to be removed for it?
Also do you know which wire is the VSS? I don't trust my diagram anymore after Tweak pointed out a major mistake on it.
Btw wiring is almost complete, have not turned the car over yet but I have power to all the right places.

I mounted mine above the steering column under the dash. VSS wire purple or purple with yellow trace, just going off memory though.

Ecu pinout a10 yellow with green trace is the one going to the cluster. I bolted mine behind the glove box on the fire wall

Great to see some good discussion on the wiring for this swap. Mine's still sitting in the shed waiting for some serious attention to this.
I'd love to see some pics of what you're doing with the plumbing for the radiator.
Cheers!
