Hey guy's I want to built me self a frame and set up a roof top tent on my Maruti's flat tray, have any of you guys got one set up you could put some pics up for me to check out.

Frame was made from 25x2.5 SHS that bolted to the headboard, and rear tray floor. Tent was the bigest Hanibal safari tent available.

personally i'd lower it a smidgen so it's sitting below the roofline a bit more

We had gear that needed the space to fit under the tent and frame. Otherwise it would have been lowered.

Don't forget that the brick like shape of the sierra means there is little direct air hitting the front of the tent at highway speeds.

Been thinking of doing exactly this on mine, my main concern is the weight (45kg's I think) up high, did that cause any issues on the one in the pic FZ?

Not at all. We even cut off the front suspension and re-set to NT width. ( is originally a WT chassis )

This vehicle was built for a vic high country snow trip, but we lunched a gearbox at coffs harbour, and the highways flooded north of sydney, so it was doomed from the start! :evil:

The tent fitted is literally the heaviest roof top tent money can buy. 55kgs.

Sounds like a godsend, that would have been some mission in the little ute all that distance

Yes and no. We'd buils a 120L stainless fuel tank, had a big fridge, heaps of gear, good heater, airlockers and reduction gears.... I was certainly looking forward to it. :cry:
