My Jimny has had the normal slight steering wobble at about 70kph for a little while, but twice now if you hit the brakes lightly when it is wobbling it turns in to the most violent left to right shake. Everything with the steering seems normal, it does have a steering dampener fitted. Any suggestions Please

Not long after I bought my coily Sierra, I was gunning it up to an intersection, you know..muckin about. As I lifted the foot, Did NOTHING else, the most violent shake happened. Tapped the brakes hard and all went away.

Over the next several weeks, the shakes would come and go randomly, at various speeds. Open country roads at 100ks, and around town.
Couple time when it did it at a 100, I had to slow to 50ish before it stopped.
You never knew when it was gonna hit, but when it did, it was serious.
At times, I could even induce the shake, just by giving the wheel a flick as I was driving along.

About that time, I swapped some services for a set of Radius arm bushes, and a couple weeks later, changed the rear ones. 3 of the bush rubbers were completed broken, and one , I pushed the centre pin out by hand. After replacing these radius bushes, the problem has NEVER returned...

I reckon thats why the previos owner sold it, she must have crapped herself first time it happen to her...

I see you are on the move again! Take a read of the whole topic linked by Tanshi. It is a process of elimination. Tightening all the bolts on the suspension arms and the Panhard rods is an easy cheap thing to try first. If they are all tight then you need to keep on looking until you find the problem. Steering damper won't fix the problem and will only mask it up to a point.
