Metal bell housing gasket when doing a baleno g16b swap, did u use it or did the adapter kit do by itself?

OK after 12 hours of bleeding hands but no real progress I have returned home via mcdonalds with these pictures

this shows the gasket where it would sit on the baleno block behind the clutch but the studs from BenT's kit won't allow it because of the shoulder on them or because the thread is too big




you can see in this photo that the thread by the pink pen is too large to go through the hole so you can't bolt it up against the block on the 1.6.

the problem I am having is that when bolting the engine up to the bell housing on the Sierra gear box there is a whole tonne of resistense.
from what I can tell it's all square but when I get to about 6mm from closing the gap, I have to hook an extra spanner onto the first spanner for leverage and that has me thinking I'm about to break something.
I pulled it all out again to check if any damage had occured and it looks perfect so fucked if I know.

why didn't you just put a real engine in the sierra in the first place mr Suzuki!

Let's not blame Mr Suzuki - my gut feeling is even if you were installing the original engine you'd be having this problem.

You should be able to get the bellhousing to mate to the enginewithout having to use that much force - something is in the way - a dowel perhaps, pilot shaft bearing - you're overlooking something.

I was advised by the supplier of my kit that the original spacer was not required. I tried to fit mine with the gearbox insitu and then gave up and pulled the box.

Check the instructions that came with the kit or ask the manufacturer.

For future reference... It isn't a gasket.
It is called a sandwich plate.

Engine in, baleno starter motor is not compatible.
Anyone have pics of their ground down sierra starter and/or ground down 1.6 block?

Yeah Baleno uses Swift starter.

I modded a 1.3 starter to fit a G16B but didn't take any pics. I ground the block side of the starter about 2mm maybe 3mm with a 40 flap disc on a 5" grinder.
There's a few different starter bodies out there so you'll have to check and adjust as necessary. Don't go grinding the side of the engine block.

cool. how much would you say you had to grind off?
or measure the distance from the block to the hole in the bell housing then grind the sierra starter down to that measurement.

does it have to sit perpendicular to the block?

No Idea, all I can think of is that the teeth on the spline of the gearbox were perfectly out of line or something.
but that's like balancing two pins point to point.
