HI al,
Not sure if this is wanted but thought id put it up.

Well today i was having a few more troubles with the idle on my carbie, Its all ready had a kit put through it so pulled it off to unblock the idle jet and give it a once over. It was pretty shaged bit of throttle shaft play and heap of (AWSOME) mods by the previous 500 owners.

So a quick search on the net and found a carbie place just down the road. went down and had a extended chat with the ins and outs and a heap of different options available. I really just wanted something easy to tune was pretty much bolt on and could get me going ASAP. EFI was an option but i just didn't have the time.
Here is a link to the weber i bought. http://www.thecarbyshop.net.au/latest-news
MIchael the owner was great to deal with and very helpful he has purchased all of these webers NOS from the us, If you want more info just give him a call.

Ok so ill throw some pics up and show every one the process took about 2 hours all up.
Tools:
spanners
Hamer
Tig welder/Glue.
Grinder/dremal with cut off wheels.
scribe
ruler
Stanley knife

Got over this pretty fast
Image

This is the kit i Picked up from the shop as it come.
Image

first of all I took the 2 space/adaptor plates off the bottom of the carbie. and pulled them apart. they were all ready marked for me by the shop.
Image

Next i got the original space place that sits on the inlet manifold and using a flat blade screw driver i bevelled the edges of the whole i could sit in the lead ball provided.
Image

Using the lead ball provided i filled the hole in the original plate by simply sitting the ball in the whole and lightly tapping it with a ball pean hammer until it was nice and flat had to work it into the hole a little but with the ball but was pretty straight forward. then i cut off the excess lead with a stanley knife blade.
Image

I then put down a gaskit then the original base plate then gaskit then the first of the 2 spacer/adaptor plates from the kit and bolted it into place.
Image

Then i bolted on the second adaptor and locktighted it in place.
Image

Then bolted carbie new throttle cable mount on,

I then bolted the template piece onto the original hat as seen in the first picture making sure that i marked the centre line and the position that it needed to be in so that it lines up with the original airbox. once i was happy with how it was i scribed around the template.
Image

Then got the grinder out and started to hack away, it would be alot easier with a dremal or 2inch cut off air tool.
Image

checking the size f the new hat adaptor, still needed to trim a bit more.
Image

Got it to where i wanted it.
Image

Then went into worlds smallest work shop and started to put the new adaptor ring on.
This helps..
Image

Owner of the carbie shop doesn't weld his on and uses a compound to stick them on cant remember what it was called.

all welded on.
Image

Then using the threaded rod supplied with the adaptor i fitted the modified hat and then cut down the threaded rod to the correct size.
Image

Then refitted 2 the vac advance hose and the vacume hose that goes to your canister. Blocked off the old choke water hoses and the other vacuum hoses.
Fitted up fuel hose and throttle cable.
Image

Gave it 2 pumps and turned it over started straight away and sat perfectly on idle. pompoms pompoms pompoms Armsup Armsup

So i thought id better take it out for a drive and wow what a difference midrange pull is so much more and the power improvement is great.
I have heard all the stories about webers on angles but i was assured that the DFT Weber didn't have these problems so i took it out and tried it out on some angles and inclines and could not fault it.
It was not an easy decision to go with the new option (cause im a tight arse) but im very happy that i did it.

Mods just delete this if its not wanted or in the wrong place.

Cheers
Mick

I hell of a good upgrade from that, is take it all off, and the manifold, and cut out the very restrictive two holes from the old carby, use the adaptor plate as a template.

You will feel a much improved throttle response over that with you feel with the carby upgrade.

IMO weber should put this on the installation instructions, its a must.

From memory, they are only something like 26 and 28mm for a sierra, you can port them out tow near 3 times that in total.

Nice job, what model is the carb ?

carbie is from a 1.6 escort. with choke removed and jets changed.
I found one on ebay after i bought mine would save some one some $$$ just buy the adaptor plate.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-81-82-Es ... 1e8&_uhb=1

From what i have been told Michael from the carbie shop darwin has bought all of the NOS stock that was in america and he adapts these carbies for everything. He had 3 others in there he was building for zooks down south when i was there today.

Nice write up!

As SuziBlu has stated, the intake manifold really needs to be ported out to match the adapter plate. Without the porting it really messes up the flow.

That carb looks very similar to the 34/34adm weber that was used on the early falcons.

Redline sell an alloy adapter that goes between the weber and the zook air hat.
No mods needed.

think it was
550 for carb
110 for adaptor plates
and 30 for air hat adaptor ring.
worked out about the same as the ebay jobs.
But this carb works on all angles and i can call up anytime and get advice.

Fair enough.
I didn't look too hard at the pics, just assumed it's the usual 32/36 DGAV/EV.

I had a bit of a search on Google and cannot find it.
Tried: DFAV, DFEV, DGV, DGAV DGEV, DCNF, DGMS, DCOE, DCOF, DCOA.

What is it's designation? Is it a real Weber or a Holley weber?

i reckon a 22/22 would be ideal for a 1.3 zook, the mk1 cortina GT's ran a 28/36 on a 1.5l, no pollution gear on it though.

When i had mine. inside the hat was a vein that split the air into the top of the web.

made the hat cause of the body lift made the angle of a modify stock hat a pain

This carb has the float bowl running down drivers side of the carb not at the rear or the front of the carb like some other Webber's, if that makes any sense. It can nearly be tiped upside down before it spills fuel or the float flips.

Hi guys - just found this whilst trying to fix the woes with my recently purchased/installed carb from 'The Carby Shop' and all I can say is beware and spend your money elsewhere....
The theory behind the fitment is fine, but the carb which they are currently supplying is a 'no name' Weber ADF copy which is just rubbish and has been nothing but trouble which they just want to keep patching up.

I know there is nothing worse than lurkers who come on forums to denigrate stuff, but if anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me as I would rather no one else wasted $600+ with this mob!

Cheers.

I quite like my stock carby that has been stripped of pretty much most things that dont make it go. The car gets left during the week and only driven every second weekend or so and it starts beautifully every single time.

Sorry to hear about your experience with the carby shop :(

Yep, just been one frustration after the next with a couple of minor niggles that ruin an otherwise good item. The problem was that I was fed up with the repeated offers to 'repair' a brand new carb which shouldn't need repairing!! Like you, I am going to return to the stock carb and grab an Empi replica of the original OEM item from Suzisport I think. They are more complex, but aside from the water choke, really are a great bit of kit. Just like yours, my OEM carb was really flawless, just had a stuffed choke which spoiled things a little.
