I want to go to a 235/85R16 tyre but am a little unsure what rim to go with. I think a 16x7 with -15 offset is going to fit, what do you guys think?

Yeah, 7" is about right. Not sure on the offset though. Yours is just standard WT isn't it? Spring spacing etc?

Yeah std widetrack. If I could get a hold of a GV rim I would test that, I know the offset probably wouldn't work but I have some 1" spacers I could try it with. I should be able to get a pretty good idea of the offset that will work from that.

I've been thinking about this too Damo - a tall skinny tyre with the right offset would eliminate any issues with rubbing on the springs.

Federal make the Couragia in this size. I'm happy with my 29's I wouldn't hesitate to try them in a 33".

It would make it easier to fit in there than a tall fat tyre that's for sure. The main reason I was looking at the skinnier sizes was that in my experience a 9" wide tyre seems to drive a lot better than a 10" tyre (on a Sierra that is). I'd say that skinnier tyres would put less stress on the drivetrain and take less power to turn too. Hopefully lighter too, all else being equal.

They are on my short list. I can get the 235/85 for about $230 a piece. 265/75 is the same height but about an inch wider if you're looking for something fatter.

33x9s might be OK if they still did them in a MT. Prolly too expensive for me anyway i'd say.

I think you're on the money on all counts.

The couragia's should be sweet in 235. I'd avoid the 265 - it undoes most of the advantage of the narrowness - it's near enough 10.5 wide.

I'm pretty sure i'm going to have to go new, but it would be nice to find something other than a normal 'ole Sunraysia looking thing.

A steel GV rim will hang out and need a 1" flare on a Sierra, should be spot on

Yep, and they have the most offset I could find in that size ( 16") and style..
