Hi All,

After struggling taking my zook apart on the weekend a vast majority of bolt are rusted and has resulted in a few snapped heads.

I'm now considering ditching the old door hinge screws and maybe replacing with stainless to avoid rusting. Ill also replace a bunch of others as putting the rusted bolts back would be pointless.

Will stainless bolts screws cause any problems?

Wish someone made a bolt kit for the zooks would make my life easy

Don't do it. Mild steel and stainless will react against each other.

Just replace your bolts with new zinc plated ones, and chuck fom anti-sieze on the threads.

Ill see if I can get something with a hex head. Not a fan of the Phillips head to many have stripped.

I use stainless ones with anti seize. No issues. (Not saying Fatzook is wrong, just that I have no issues.)

In theory they are dissimilar enough to cause corosion if an electrolyte is present (ie salty water).

so you are best off just getting zinc plated steel ones, they are much much cheaper than stainless anyway....

Also, if the staino bolts DO bind up in the thread, they are more likely to snap due to their lower grade and higher brittleness.

Don't ever plan on pulling it apart after its painted but never know when ill need to.

That's just a generic kit. You can get Socket head bolts with a with wide head similar to the standard phillips head versions but these too have issues as when you torque them up you can round the socket thus making removal a bitch. Don't use hex head bolt though they look shit house.

Sorry what I meant was just a standard bolt for a socket. That's the only kit I could find so not sure what else to search for.

A socket head bolt are the ones you use an Allen key for

They are called socket head cap screws.

Ahh ok I'm getting myself confused.. I was just talking about a standard bolt thanks for the information above really helps.

The dome ones look good but will they strip?

No. I use the DHCS's (in Zinc'd mild steel) for doors all the time. Just get yourself a set of in-hex sockets for your 3/8" ratchet, and you'll never strip an allen head bolt again.

More commonly referred to as a BUTTON HEAD CAP SCREW.

I used a lot of stainless BHCS's in Snow White. Installed them each with a dab of Coppertec anti-seize and they all came out easily 3 years later.

Stainless is more brittle than mild steel but if you use anti seize and only fit the right length bolts (IE: not too long so threads are exposed inside whatever panel) you won't have any dramas.
