Hey,

just wondering what people have done to upgrade there fuel tanks to something bigger?? I have a sierra ute and it only has got a 40 L tank and it doesn't last that long as i have got a toyota 5k motor.

let me know what tank you have used.

Am considering the same.

Have a SJ80 that I hope to put a fuel injected motor in, sometime in the far distant future.
Contemplating getting a larger tank out of a car that has a high pressure fuel pump, combined with the sender/pickup assembly.

I don't even get 40 L with the stock tank, a good 6-8L are taken up in dents.

Get a carby pajero fuel tank. Should be less than $100 from wreckers. They are 83L and fit perfectly between the rails on a ute. I will take some pics of mine in the morning.

Ok - so those were photos of a Pajero tank in a Sierra Ute?

Utes are longer than soft tops arn't they? anyone know if a Pajero tank would be likely to fit in a soft top SJ80?

the size looks good, length and width. however for a SWB sierra, the height will end up comming up through the floor in the back a huge amount. you could maybe mount it sitting under the rails rather than ontop like pete did but i think you would find it sitting really low.

So are you saying it would not be possible to fit in a Soft Top without a body lift?

Because mounting it on top of the chassis rails without a body lift would mean the top of the tank would come through the floor in the back?

Im not saying its impossible.

Im saying if you look at where pete has mounted his tank with the flange sitting ontop of the chassis rail by the looks of it. The tank hangs down to the bottom of the chassis rail. but sits up above the rail a good 8 to 10 inches. On a swb sierra the floor only sits above the chassis about the thickness of a rubber, ie 10-15mm. Therefore givving you about 8 inches of tank sitting up through the floor.

If you mounted the tank lower, so that the flange was level with the bottom of the chassis, you would have around 5 inches sitting below the chassis which wouldnt be a big deal as thats about what the standard one sits i believe. But you will still have around 2-3 inches sitting above the chassis rail, and so still sitting through the floor. with a body lift you might get it in.
