i did have a diff gaurd that was bolt on using some all thread rod that bent to suit, but ive stuffed the all thread rod up and just left it off the car. well wouldnt you know when you need it you dont have it. managed to cop a nice dint in the front housing. i think it will be ok but i want to put the gaurd back on. as ive lost the all thread rod for it i am thinking of just welding it on. what do you guys think, post up pics

how big a dent can a diff take before its a problem?

hey shep,a mate of mine had about twice that dent or more in his front diff,i thought there was no way it would clear the gears but it never hit and was never a problem.

hey brendan,this is my diff helmet i made up.Some 50x5 or 6mm flat bar that i bent using my foot to the shape of the centre.Then just ran a few stitches around the armour.Notched out the section for the filler plug and also cut a bit out at the bottom to stop mud etc building up in it.So far for me it has worked really well and was very easy to build.Am yet to build something similar for the rear end.

You bent it with your foot, what do you think a rock is going to do when it's hit.

haha it took alot of effort with hand and feet,then a bit of tapping with a hammer to smoothern the shape off.Ive head butted rocks so far and plowed granite ruts etc,not a mark yet.its gotta be better than what it had before,and the bottom arch is 50mm laying flat so i cant see it going anywhere.Thanks for the comments tho mate

blackwoods have the pipe caps brendan,on their online store even i believe,may be a bit pricey tho?

thats basicly what i got. i managed to find the all thread rod thats bolts mine on. i did a test fit and it still fits ok. the only thing im worryed about is the 2 gaps on the side?
might make up somthing to fill the 2 gaps

i was gonna put extras on mine like you have but didnt know if there was really any need.Looks like it will do a good job mate.Im sure there all gotta be better than no armour at all

thats a bit of a stupid question isnt it?

when you smash your diff the forces push on the diff. in theory i could just glue the thing on but then it would probably fall off from vibrations and bumps.

i liike the bolt on one better, if it gets smashed take it off cut the smashed peice out and weld in a new one. plus dont havee to lug the welder out the front to weld onto the diff
