Hi,

The wet season is fast approaching and i want to load a set of muddies for my wet season weekend wheeling. Anyone know of a (available in Australia) tire that will out-mud the Hankook DynaPro RT03 MT in the 215/75/R15 size.


Here is my spiel on my current (soon to be dry season only tires)
Dueler A/T D697 in 225/75/R15
I've been running Dueler A/T D697 in 225/75/R15 for the last 4 months and really like them. I've adjusted well to the higher gear ratios the 225's presented on my Jimny, a little extra clutch here and there but Its been fine for me. Put them through plenty of rocky trails and the like and think they are proving very reliable. They are wearing really slow, have been great on sand, rocks and everything except thick, sticky mud. Amazing I can't find any chips and I've been running them at high pressures (40psi).

As per my inflated tire inflation:
I've pretty much kept with the stock pressure since getting them fitted, guess I should stop being slack and get with the flow and start letting them down for scrub. I just hate waiting for the "slow as hell" little compressor to pump them back up Guess I should get a bigger one.

stock pressures are NOT 40psi

Stock pressure is 22psi on my Vitara, I run 26 on road.
8-15psi off road.
My slow cheap compressor pumps to 20 fairly quick, anything over that is too slow.
But 20 is fine to get to a servo.
I'm sure most zooks are 22psi at a guess

Which is based on a very lightly constructed 'P' tyre. Optimum pressure in a much stiffer LT tyre might be less than the placard, although not by much.

You're not getting anywhere near the most out of any tyre if you're not airing it down.

you should probably be looking at about 20 for those on road

Well who ever did that was ignorant of what the pressures should be. You should be running low to mid 20s. Find what works best for you.

I put 40 in newly fitted tyres, for a week, to make sure beads are nicely seated.
Maybe fitter pumped them till they seated, and left it at that.
My recent tyres had 52psi in them after fitting.

I will check current pressure then try say 23psi this arvo, but must say that it does drive well on the road as is. Could the higher pressure attribute to what I think is very low wear over the last 4 months or so, they don't appear to have worn at all (still have the new spare to compare to).

i would say at 40 the wear would be right up the middle of the tyre, (uneven wear)
i doubt that the pressures would stop them wearing, just good compound

Light car, tyres last very well on Zooks.
Higher pressures will wear out centre tread faster,
and too low will wear outer edges of trad faster.
High pressures can cause skids on wet roads also.

When I got my new Suzuki I was shocked to find the dealership had put over 40 psi into the tires..

The placecard says 26 rear, 23 front, and 29 rear when fully loaded. (Suz Jimny 2013)

Just open your door and check the placecard. It says those figures

4 months is nothing, dependin on how much u drive it wont be close at all to start seeing some wear. Give it at least year and half to have something really notisable at plain sight. And by them it would be already too late.

I never pass the 26-30psi mark and some how manage to wear down right in the middle of the tyre mostly on just two of them. Also a lack of constant rotattion also helped. But now im facing having to buy new tyres pretty soon instead of in a few months

Most tyre places would pump the tyres till 35-40 as becose "its a 4wd". So dn trust them. I have only had 1! Place where they actually put 25 on them. Last week I change my rims and the idiot put 37 on them and didnt even needed to check it to know, the car feel like shit. Very loose steering and pretty bumpy on the highway till i stop in a servo to air down.

No idea on why you say you like the handling, but stop in a servo and air down to 24 and youll see clouds and rainbows then hahaha

I'd say they would do it to seat the bead etc. It would take them time to let it back down and why would they? Its not hard to let them down to where you want it. As for trust it is not like they stole your lunch money.

However, excessively low pressures definitely reduce braking traction, and here's the proof: Next time you see braking skid marks on a road have a look to see if they look really dark on the outside edges and faint in the centre. That's the effect of under inflated tyres - the centre of the tread is folding up under braking load and coming away from the road surface. Needless to say that's hurting braking traction.

A friend of mine went on a driving techniques course, I think organised by Skoda. The instructors said 90% of people run too low of a tyre pressure, too low is every bit as bad as too high.

I like the handling, she drives in a straight line if I let go of the wheel, no death wobbles anymore, i can scoot around a roundabout if i need too, don't get me wrong doesn't compare to my sedan but much better than my old land rover

Will seriously get round to dropping pressures tomorrow though to get up amongst those

Pretty sure you can get couragias in a 235 aswell They Would be a similar size as your 225s Becuase they have a skinny tread pattern
