Hi all,
Has anyone lifted their fuel tank? i.e running body lift then raising the mounts for the tank so it sits at stock height relative to the body not chassis. Seems like a good way to gain about 40mm (same as my body lift) clearance for the tank and help tuck it up away from rocks. I have searched and haven't found too much info on it without chopping up the floor, is this because its just impractical or too hard or just cbf? I am getting a tank guard but can't help thinking that the extra clearance would be nice. Keen to see if anyone has tried it or other ideas?

yeah it's a nice way to get some extra clearance & there are a few write ups on the US forums about doing a tank lift on SE416's, you'll be able to raise it the same amount as your bodylift without having to chop the floor.

it's just a matter of cutting & reworking the tank mounts to suit, you'll have to keep in mind how the tank guards mount when building new mounts.

Have been searching and found a few write ups but nothing too detailed, but it seems simple in concept at least. I'll have a better look under the car on Saturday when it goes up on the hoist to get a new rear main seal. Will have to work out how the tank guard is going to mount up

Concept is simple - cut off existing mounts and re-weld new ones to sit above the existing points.

Practice not so simple.

There's a reason not many of us do it. Effort:Reward ratio doesn't add up.

Thanks, I'll have a closer look and if it seems like its going to be a PITA I'll just leave it at a tank guard and call it a day.
The tank seems like it should fit between the frame rails but will have to wait and see.

I looked seriously into lifting mine, but decided it was too hard.
Mine (LWB 55L) would just fit inside rails, but only with the ridges bent flat.
Main issue for me was getting filler around the chassis.
I was trying to do a non weld lift, but due to the way mounts were, would need to make new mounts.

Swb 1.6 tanks lift easy but the lwb tanks are wider and the lip hits the chassis
i would say the sv would be the same
u can't lift the tank up throughthe floor it has the main support for the body above it
it would need to go forward then up

Hmmm, I guess its sounding like its not a good mod to do unless a fair few little jobs are taken care of. Still going to pull the tank off tomorrow and have a proper look at it. I could go up and forward a bit as there is a fair amount of space infront of the tank, but will be interested to see if there is a support for the body above it.

had a proper look today. would need to make up new mounting tabs that would bring the tank up about 35mm and forward about 10mm. Also the tank will fit between the chassis rails without a problem. Only thing would be getting enough clearance between the diff and tank but wouldn't be too hard. Seems doable but tedious and super fiddly. Right now I don't think I will do it, but may have to do some modding anyway to get the tank guard to clear the tow bar.
