Hi,
I have a '92 Sierra soft top. What is the fuel tank capacity on these? I have it on the farm I work on and don't get to fill it from a bowser. I need to put a 20 litre drum of fuel in it nearly every couple of days, and don't drive more than 40 odd kilometres over that period. Sometimes it fills it,... sometimes it don't.
Just wondering?
Cheers, Ted.

assuming no dents in the tank, 40L.
oh, and dont trust the gauge. my old SWB's gauge used to read full for the 1st 100km, then over the next 50km drop to 1/3 of a tank, then sit there for another 100 then drop to empty.

Mine just reads full all the time. It has a coily dash fitted, but not by me. Nothing works except the oil light on start up.

Ted, you're running a Vitara engine so you've probably got a Vitara tank as well, from memory it should hold a few litres more than the 40lt Sierra tank. If your tank is dented, it can be popped out with compressed air. The fuel gauge not working might be the sender, easily fixed, see this thread. viewtopic.php?f=17&t=4140But the above won't solve your fuel consumption problem, should be getting 100+km from 20lt, could be engine related, this thread is about V6s but might be of help. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=41728

IFAIK they take a bit of effort to fit, and is why I didn't pull one from the wreck with the G16b. Coily tank is where its at.

I was guessing you would run an efi tank with an efi engine, could be wrong (and stop being smart )

. . . and the tank is not the actual problem, it's using 20lt to travel 40km, a 1.6 on 31s with 6.5 gears that is only used on the farm should be doing much better.

She told me I was lieing, I eventually gave up and admitted that my name mustn't have been Mark. steve125 wrote: . . . and the tank is not the actual problem,. You're the one whom commented on tanks to begin with. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Sounds like fuel is leaking straight out with that consumption. I don't know efi at all, but would O2 sensor and VSS be places to start looking? Wheel bearings poo-ed out? Flogged bearings in drive line, dragging brakes could all be factors

I know of 3 conversions that have used vit tanks, the mounts aren't overly complex. In any case a swb 1.6 vit tank is 42L so its practically the same as Sierra anyway.

I agree with sideways. Coily tank or Dak Dak pump is how it is done 90% of the time. Some of us who don't wanna fab tank mounts when original Suzuki equipment that will work is available.

2 of them, yes, and I'm sure there are others around. I think Joe might have even built a few with vit tanks too, but I do agree that coily/external pump is more common. My point was more the OP has a tank of about 40L, I don't know of any non Suzuki tanks that will fit in a swb Sierra except a long ranger and I don't believe the larger vit tanks fit between the rails.

Sorry guys,..I have been offline while you were all trying to help. I'm not sure what tank is in the beast, as I just bought it off a young bloke in Brissy about four months ago and have spent most of this time fixing broken stuff. He had given it a fair hiding. I don't know jack shit about these little beasts as I am really a diesel 'cruiser guy. Though I bought the Zook to get around some of the bad arse mountain tracks we have on the farm I work on. Two Landcruisers, one Nissan Patrol, and two Hilux utes couldn't get up one track in particular. The Zook in low second with the Trailcreeper kit crawls up there with no problems. Its running 31" Wrangler Kevlar MT's on steel wheels. Its a WT Sierra. It will pull 120 k/h in third high on the black top (thats GPS speed) and I run out of road up there to do fourth. I'm lovin it at the moment, and this forum has been great to help sort some shit out. Yeah,..fuel economy is bad, but I suppose it could be the terrain. Theres bugger all flat country. On the farm itself, I never get out of second high, and am mostly in first, or low range. (hence why I fitted the 6.5 gears). I will check out the sender guage this weekend. Thanks guys, Ted., Ps, I thought I should ad that this motor seems to run really rich, and a lot of blue smoke blows out of the exhaust. Being an EFI, I have no idea. I have cleaned the hotwire in the air box, and used carbi cleaner inside/outside the intake etc, to no avail. Nothing seems to work on the dash, except the oil light, though it has a kick arse computer in the cab. I really wish it had a carby.
