Hey guy's,

I had a chat to the auto elecy about wiring up my G16b engine conversion into the sierra, and he mentioned he'd rather use new after market gauges (water temp, oil pressure) as the vitara and sierra gauges would be a different resistance and not as accurate unless I get the cluster re-calibrated.

I've never heard or read anything about this.

Also I mentioned about how some people swap over the VSS out of the vitara, and he basically said no and asked, where the fk do I get this shit from... I said from other's that have done the conversion plenty times before.

Can someone please explain what the VSS does, and why it is swapped over.

Sounds like your auto sparky should pull his head in a bit.

The water temp gauge sender is exactly the same in both motors. The gauge will work fine. As there's no numbers on the stock temperature gauge, I'm not sure what you'd be "re calibrating." In any case, you could always use the Sierra temp sender if you were that concerned, but I can assure you the temp gauge will read fine regardless.

I can't for the life of me understand the point of an oil pressure gauge. All it's measuring in a stock (or near stock) motor is engine wear. The oil pressure light (which is useful) works the same on a G13 or G16 so it doesn't need "calibrating" either.

The VSS tells the computer the car is in motion. This has a small effect on drivability, as the computer adjusts no-throttle fuelling depending on whether the car is in motion or not, but that's not the real reason to fit the VSS - without a VSS, the car will throw a check engine light once it's been driven for a minute or so. This is A) distracting and B) will mean if there is a "real" problem with the computer/sensors you won't know because the light is already on. That defeats the purpose of having a check engine light IMHO.

Considering it takes about 30 minutes to fit a VSS, there's no reason not too.

Yes yo do want to swap the VSS over, there are some detailed threads showing you how to do it, im a noob and i did it and it was easy. Someone correct me if im wrong but i was told it had something to do with the richness or something as you go faster. pretty much if you dont put it in it will not be anywhere near as economical to run. As far as the guages go - sure it cant hurt. I like to know exactly whats going on so stuck a volts, oil pres and temp in mine

I was left wondering, WTF.. No I shouldn't need anything besides the wiring loom and vss.

I guess I'll ask if it needs a flux capacitor too.

I had guy talk to me similar buzbox about the vss .I ended up turning around and walking away and paif my money to someone else who was more polite

I don't care if they're polite or not, as long as they can get the job done, and do a neat job while doing it.

As Steve said, the vss is needed as not to throw codes and have the check engine light come on. I've already got all the gear so might as well do it.
