Glad I found this site.

I am a member of the Pajero Club Victoria forum.

Ok, my partner has a 98 Jimny with a hellava shake/vibration between 92 and 100Ks. So far we have had a new rear uni joint, wheels moved from front to rear made it worse as the rear tyres were found to be out of round. Had new tyres and balanced. Yep, still shaking and vibrating. Engine and gearbox mounts all fine.

Mechanic says 'where do we start'.

Any help will be appreciated.

I was getting a shake at around 80ks and found the trunnion bearings (kingpin bearing) fixed the problem

Work through the jimny steering wobble group discussipn thread. I'm on my phone so I can't link in easily, but it won't be hard to find. As per the last post, it's most likely being caused by inadequate kingpin bearing preload. Jimny's are extremely sensitive to this, and as your partners car is a 98, I'm sure the kingpins are not at their best.

You will need to show your mechanic the procedure for checking preload. Just throwing new bearings in and calling it good is unlikely to work- steering knuckle starting torque is the key. Lots of mechanics struggle with this, check for play, and if they don't find any, declare them "fine". This isn't enough.

Between 92-100 doesn't sound like the common death wobble but a good place to start

x2, on my Coily the death-wobbles occured at about 60-70 and never occured at higher speeds. Checked jackshaft uni-joint?

Any specialist Suzuki mechanics where you are Alyn?

Is it a vibration through the whole car or a steering wheel shake that gets worse?

If it's a steering wheel shake look up death wobble on here and Google Suzuki Jimny death wobble.

If it's a general vibration through the car with the elimination of the tyres I would look to the prop uj's and I think one may have wear.

Yeah it's the whole car that vibrates. Had rear TS uni replaced. Mechanic can't find wear in the other uni's.

i only get that when my tyres sync up and the slight out of balance becomes quite noticeable. also, ive since found my pan hard bushes are buggured.
98 model, what size tires? suspension? castor correction in the front?

Id say re-check your tyres.

The famous "jimny death wooble" is on the 60-80mark (witch im starting to get now

I recently swap my tyres into a new set of rims, the shop who did it suposed to have it balanced and I even saw they put new weights. I got a bad shake after i drive over 100km/h. Went to another tyre shop and the guy laugh at my face when I asked him if my tyres were unbalanced. Now Im all sweet

just because your mechanic cant find wear in the uni , doesnt mean shit. remove the shafts and check for bind.

wheel balance will usually cause a shake through the steering wheel , so im betting that if you can feel the vibration through the car and not the steering wheel its a driveline problem .

A nother thing to consider with the tailshaft is if the balance weight has come off it.
Depending on how much weight to start with depends on when you will feel the vibration.

If someone has pulled the shaft out and reset the spline position then that can also play with how it's balanced.
