Ok. About 4 months ago I purchased a new starter motor off eBay. Well it was actually a warranty replaced one. I purchased one off the guy before and after 6 months it died in the ass. Now it seems to happen after the car has been let to sit for a few weeks. The starter motor just doesn't do anything. I have a starter motor relay and all connections and fuse are fine. Does something inside the starter motor cease up after non operation?? I really don't want to go through the hassle of dealing with the eBay seller again has he took close to a month before he sent me a replacement. I'd just rather buy a new one. So if I pull the starter out do I strip it down and clean it up??

Do you hear a click when you go to start it?

Ive had my local autoelectrician rebuild starter motors for me over the years, quite reasonable price compared to a new one.

is it possible to buy new solinoids

it doesnt click. I pulled it apart pulled the big black case off and all in there looks fine. Pulled the solinoid off and at the end looks corroded. I think the soloinoid might be cactus.

when the starter motor is all hooked up it doesnt click or anything. All i hear is my relay being triggered.

Get a meter or a test lamp and check it ...

Do you have voltage at the solenoid terminal when you turn the key - yes or no - yes, the solenoid is defective; no, work your way back to the relay.

and yes, the solenoid can be replaced separately.

Pulled out the solenoid and found that the plunger was all ceased up with corrosion. Took it to ashdown Ingram and they picked a new one for only $54! Ill be wacking some grease on the plunger and putting some gasket goop around the mating surface.

No goop you'll kill yr earth. Happened to me when I had the idea of sealing mine

Guess il just have to pull it out after every dirty trip and clean it up

im struggling with the idea that sealing the solenoid will kill your earth , and i just did an an advanced electronics course on the weekend so bogga if you could please explain this to me im all ears ..

X2! Regardless of the goop to seal the solenoid you still have 2 bolts holding it on the the starter body providing grounding.

I only suggest this from experience. I sealed mine with gasket silicone and could not get it to fire. Pulled off, scraped off the silicone, re installed and bang she worked. Nothing much more to explain??

If it was supposed to be sealed why wouldnt there be a ome gasket supplied?

Edit : Oh my bad. I was talking about sealing the surface where the case installes to the motor
