Hey guys
Zook is due for a timing belt, SJ80 SJ413 1996.
Anyone know if the eBay kits for them are ok?
And what problems can occur whilst doing this at home?

The Ebay kits are OK but remember you get what you pay for.
There are several different quality grades of belts out there. I'd recommend Bosch or Gates.

Problems? Not if you follow the FSM.

I got one from ebay, optibelt was the brand, which is a german made belt amd I have seen the same brand in some high performance engines,
The only problem is if you dont match the arrows up, either youll blow the motor, or make it be able to rev out past 10000 rpm, depending on whether you go one tooth back or one tooth forward.
Make sure you get a tensioner with the kit or youll have all sorts of troubles.
Also I believe there are 2 dofferent belts for the zooks, make sure you count the teeth or send the ebay guy a message, he is pretty helpful. The guy I delt with is 4wd_products

Yep,learnt the hard way,some of the Ebay belts are wrongly spec-ed & don't fit some models,from what i learnt apparently 1996 & 1998 were changeover years.

4wd products have all the info on what fits what.

G13A & G13B are same belt but G13BA is different.

Get the kit from seller 4wdproducts, remove the plastic timing belt cover and get the part number off the belt and message it to seller apon checkout. Motor is non interferance so its pretty hard to go wrong.

Remove:
Cover
Fan hub
Fan shroud
Radiator
Crank pulley

Release tensioner
Remove belt
Remove tensioner

Fit tensioner
Line timing marks up
Fit belt
Check timing
Fit all the rest and use locktight on the bolts for pulleys and tensioner.

Wind over by hand with or remove lead from dizzy to coil and crank it.

Where did you get that idea?

A G13A is a 1324cc 8V SOHC engine which takes an 89 tooth belt
A G13BA is a 1298cc 8V SOHC engine which takes an 89 tooth belt

Most people consider the G13B as the 1298cc 16V DOHC engine - and that takes a 119 tooth belt.

As far as I know there are two different belts for the 8V engines, but both are the same length, width & tooth count - the difference is in the tooth shape, one is half round and the other rectangular.

Correct.


Most Sierras are G13A (1324cc), some are G13B (8v 1298cc) after about 92 they are G13BA (1298cc)with the different belt.
