So at 600mm it got pretty wet inside

Pools of water formed, carpet got wet, etc

Back seats way worse than front seats

I was only a bit worried about the pool of water around the petrol lid switch, since I didnt want it to wreck anything

I suppose there isn't much I can do about it?

All you can really do is bite the bullet and pull out the carpet to dry :(

I hate water in the car. As chop suggested, you may have driven too slow.

Uh well I went pretty quickly.... Once I got going....

.... Err on the way in I may have forgotten to go back from N to D after swapping to 4L *smacks head* so initially I blamed myself for the water, as I came to a near stop

But on way back I went as fast as I thought I could, but me & girl are 95% sure that more got in

Would love to try again but not too many 600mm crossings are handy

sure it wasn't esky water in the car, or could you see it coming in & if so where was it leaking in?

Sure. We had a cargo tray in back so most water was pooled in that, and you could see how it was heaviest in between the middle door & front door.

We couldn't see it coming in although we weren't looking (me driving, her taking photos) but I rolled up towels and put them next to the door on way back, and they were quite wet. The more I think about it the more I realise I'm not going to know for certain until it happens again. There are too many variables (esky, leaving in neautral).

Oh and for the snorkel, the squeak has gone, but it still rattles a bit. Is the normal noise associated with them a rattle? I always thought it was supposed to be the sound of air being sucked

Changed my first spare tyre today, on a girls i30, jack point much easier to locate than the NGV. Did it easy enough.

As the car was parked on a driveway with a 20 degree angle, I moved it down to the road, and it made me think about the necessity of changing it. What happens if you drive on a flat? I did it for at least a day without realising once. Do you damage the tyre? I would have been tempted to just drive to the tyre shop and get them to change it (we need to get a new one anyway). Plus if you get a flat on an offroad bit I imagine you will need to drive a bit to look for a solid level surface.

So yeah my question is - what happens if you drive on a total flat?

EDIT
While I am at it, what is the consensus on tinting windows? I understood it kept the car cool, but recently people have said that is a total myth. Does tinting them work?

Okay so another one....

Today I got my underbody protection done through OL who I thought were really helpful. They said the snorkel rattle was caused by the intake pipe being next to the guard. The vibration of the engine above 60km was causing them to bang. They said there wasn't really a permanent solution, it was due to it being a tight fit worth the guard & intake. So they put a bit of foam between them which has stopped the rattle, they said its likely last a few years but eventually need to be replaced.

This all makes sense to me but I wanted to post it here to make sure it was true, ie it wasn't a dodgy installation or anything.

If its a safari snorkel on a 05 plus Gv then they forgot to add the zip tie that comes in the kit.
It ties the intake pipe to the body to stop it rattling.

Simple.

Undo the plastic clips and look inside the wheel arch.
Check than none of the hose clamps are making contact with metal to make the ratle.
Get a zip tie and tie the pipe to the inner panel.
Refit panel.

^ unfortunately totally beyond my expertise

So it's just a plain cable tie, nothing special?

I'll give Steve from OL a call tomorrow, see what he says

Steve from OL is "SiKid01" on here.

My mates Hilux has a snorkel fitted there and it rattles also, maybe OL has to up their game a bit. But comparing to TJM they could do nothing  ARB Darwin treated me well, maybe me recommending OL was a mistake.

Edit: not saying the rattling snorkel is a good thing!

Oh yeah? Cool. Well like I said in my original post, Steve had been pretty helpful with my car on a few items. E.g. Yesterday he they put the qld underbody stuff on my car and only charged me an hours labour when it took a bit more, because of the snorkel issue. And he told emphasised yesterday that if I wasn't happy with the foam or heard any more rattles (which we haven't) to call him up. So I'm happy to give him the benefit of the doubt.

ARB did the towbar & bullbar on my car but their service just left a bad taste in my mouth. They bluntly refuse to do anything extra, e.g tow points or fitting that qld underbody protection. They always try to sell me on their stuff without finding out if its necessary or not, like their air pump. I dunno... Ultimately they do what they say so I can't complain, but Steve just seemed more interested in me as a customer.

Ok. I thought that you weren't happy and was wondering whether I suggested the right place. I didn't find that with ARB, although most do

I very much knew what I wanted to buy from there though, and wouldn't have walked out with extra.

Steve gives very blunt but honest and accurate opinions from my experience, and has lots of knowledge with suzuki's.

I obviously interpreted the post the wrong way and started to worry for nothing.

Yeah spoke to Steve he said the zip tie was on there, that it fixes the issue most of the time, but under a certain load it still vibrates enough that the intake pipe against to body will still rattle a small bit, even with the cable tie. He said the only way they've found to make it silent is to put the foam between them. Sounded to me like he knew what he was talking about. Though still a bit unsure why the foam wasn't there in the first place. But anyways if this problem is fixed for now, and every few years I need to repad it, I can live with that.

Also this thread made me realise that I had totally forgotten to speak to him about installing front tow points. Should have done that yesterday. Ah well.

Oookay.... So here is the red faced story for today

Took the zook out for the first time since Steve fixed it

Was still making that damn rattling

I was real annoyed but my instinct had always been that Steve is honest & knowledgable so I figure I'll go see him again.

I am partially deaf and I refuse to wear a hearing aid - yet even I can hear it.

I go into OL and have a chat with him. He jumps in the car with me and I go for a drive and the snorkel is rattling away.

So... Within about 20 seconds Steve figures out that actually one of the caps on the roof rack has come loose! The one next to the snorkel. Puts a bit of masking tape over it and I take it for a test drive. Yep, that's it.

No noise with the snorkel at all.

So there you go, I apologise, but he's real good about it.

I'm still a bit incredulous about the whole thing but there you go.

Edit - a few hours later I still can't believe it. And I was going to put some silicone in there but even just reclipping them has stopped the noise. Some things I still can figure out like - this whole time, was my girl & Steve talking about a different noise that i couldn't hear? I dunno, suppose it doesn't matter now. Steve also said there isn't a good place to put a front tow point, he thinks it could damage the bull bar, and a equaliser between the tie down points is as good as I'm likely to get.

If you where worried about gearing I would run 225 75 16. If you wasn't I would run 245 75 16. My opinion

I think 225 70 16 is stock... Wasn't your question regarding tyres and gearing? Or just the biggest tyre?

I just want to know what the biggest tyre size I can fit post 2" lift without worrying about re-gearing.

Do you have gearing on your 245's (I'm assuming that's what you run) how does it run on the highway?

The biggest tyre you can run post lift is the same as the biggest tyre you can run pre lift; 30.5 inches or 245/75 16. The size of the wheel well is what limits tyre size, lift does nothing.

You do lose a gear, but gain ground clearance, and the car is still usable offroad and runs fine on the hwy with a small increase in fuel consumption.

There are no aftermarket gears available for NGVs.

The hardest thing in 4wding to understand, apparently.

Nice post Steve. Easy to understand.
