Hi guys,

So I was trying to find the idle screw on the carby of my 1991 JX sierra. I thought I found it looking in from the passenger side and began to adjust it. It sounded like the revs were changing until it completely stopped the car. Now the sierra wont start and there are no ignition lights however it is turning over. Why would this be please help!

Cheers

that black wire with the white stripe that goes to the anti dieseling solenoid is operated on the same circuit as the coil and ignition lights as well as a few other things that are supplied ignition power . the fuse for it is the 20 amp fuse under the dash marked coil/meter , if it were to have some bare wires and you earthed them out it would blow this fuse.

Isn't that the air/fuel mixture screw? You may have just shut one of them off if you screwed it all one way or another.

That one you have adjusted is the warm idle screw, you set that when the engine is hot.

When you turn the key listen for a click or better off get someone to listen around the carby. You want the solenoid losfer pointed out to ckick.

it wont click because he has no ignition lights which means no power to the black wire with white stripe.

tmitchell , no he has the right screw the idle air fuel mixture screw is the one at the very base of the carb in picture 1 , with the anti tamper cover removed ....

Thanks guys you are all correct as I was adjusting it while the engine was at running temp. Thank you losfer I did figure it out eventually and it was just the blown fuse like you said. Got it running again and now she is all tuned and sweet. Cheers!
