Want to fit AC to my 97 coily, sick of the dust and rain but I don't want to sell it (I'd never make the cash back) everything I've seen says the same, just fit a factory kit from another one, problem is, those kits are getting pretty thin on the ground.
So the question is, what else fits with minor mods? Anyone found aftermarket kits around? While vintage air does a extra small kit, it's a butt load of cash to shell out if there is a cheaper route to take.

So you spend $250 on the dash part, and then save money doing the pipework and compressor yourself, from any Suzuki car. Remove tray under glove box, and it fits quite well. Tap into existing ductwork.

Did this about 3 years ago, to my first Coily.

Cheers for the quick reply, had a look at the site, are you talking about the concealed unit? EV2216? Looks like she'd do the job. I'm assuming the Compressor and mounts off a vitara would bolt straight up?

How well did this work? for the condenser and drier and other stuff did you use suzuki components? compressor and bracket is obvious, but can everything else be universal?

Yeah if I had some suzi cars laying about at the time, I woulda tried but I didn't. As we all know, a lot of suzi assesories interchage.

But I did have a RN85 Hilux wreck (22R 4cyl) laying about, and used it's condenser, and was able to use some of the pipework.
It had a complete system, and a bulkhead fitting which I needed and stuff. A new dryer was 25 bucks, and I used a compressor from a hyundai excel, because it was smaller than the one in the Hilux. and it was newer, (and I knew it was working). Made my own brackets.
It all worked very well, and was marv on long trips. The Hyundais condenser may have been a better fit, but it was bent, so never tried.

I never got around to taking any pics, and it was subsequently destroyed during a firestorm on the farm. Lost a shack, 2 sheds, and 4 cars in that.

Yes it was the EV2216. At the time, I had another plenum (in steel) from a similar unit that was in a bronco I bought in from the US, and I modded that but theres no reason why the supplied one (was plastic) wouldn't work. It was a tight fit, because I tred to keep it as high as I could. The brackets that were supplied may have worked, but I fabbed my own to suit. Had to have 3 hoses made. The 2 from the 2216 to the bulkhead fittings were the worst, because I wanted to keep them as short as possible, which then made it harder to fit them. All up including a 100 for the regas, brought the total to about 400 bucks.

Having access to a large scrap heap did help, along with the usual welders/grinder/cutters etc.

I actually have a MK1 GTi air con system that we pulled from a car a few months back, and have been toying with the idea of putting it in the current Coily.

You should be able to find a complete setup from a wrecker, they even come up on here occasionally. Coil and leaf sierra's are a little different in terms of the hard lines and under dash unit. I'm sure a leaf setup could be modified to fit though.

Any more information about the Sierra air con's?? I bought a kit off here a few years back and have only just recently decided it's time to put it into my 92 Sierra, unfortunately it doesn't even look close to the right one so maybe it is to suit a coil Spring model? I really want to get air con in one of these little cars!!
