Hey guys,
Looking to buy a jimny in the near future, just wondering if there are any common problems to look out for in 2nd hand examples, apart from the usual stuff when buying 2nd hand vehicles? Looking on gumtree and the likes, cheapest examples go for 4-6k with 200k+ on the clock, is this getting on a bit? Or will they keep on going no dramas?
Appreciate any help!
Tyler

it kinda depends on what your looking for. sagy standard suspension wont be a problem, if you plan on chucking it anyway. straight swaybar mounts on the front diff, leaking oil from the scraper seals, check the log book to see if it spent its life on paved roads or if it was offroaded by Queensland rail staff at some point. make sure high and low engage, and if it has auto locking hubs check the vacuum lines are intact and the wheels are actually being diven, with no busted cv's. dont pay extra for any accessory you don't want like a alloy nudge bar, alloy wheels. jx models sold in queensland sometimes have no power steering, abs, centeral locking. all should have working aircon.

Check under the back seats for Rust. It's pretty common in this area.

what sort of Logo would a Railways Jimny have?
i bought my Jimny and it looks like it could of been an Energex runabout. (has a square patch on the doors when looking in the dust)

A very noisy transfer case can be a sign of trouble. I had a stretched chain. They all make some noise but drive a few to work out what is normal. Also the VVT models have slightly more power and some extra comforts but can be more difficult to mod because of the air bags (body lift can be a problem) and you need to buy a later model engine if you want to upgrade later and this limits the possibilities a little. Anyhow just some thoughts.
