Hi Guys

I was at the wreckers today and I saw a Holden Combo Van. They are Barinas with a big arse and barn door. Would it be possible to graft the van bit to a LWB Sierra. At the moment I have the standard tray and what I'd really like is an enclosed canopy. Any thoughts on this?

Is this serious? Honestly I think its going to look totally ridiculous? Anything is possible if you're prepared to spend enough time on it.

Why not just chuck stuff that can't get wet in a space case and call it a day?

My Ideal car would be a Sierra Panel Van. I'd love to be able to climb in the back and sleep lol. With enough "blending" I reckon It would look ok

My sierra actually has a ute "tray" its unbolts with 6 bolts. Its rusty as fuck and I cant find a canopy to stick on it

It's a different idea, if you got the time and money go for it. What it will look like is totally up to your ability and vision.

Did people here shit can Mr Green when he said he was building a dual cab Sierra? Or do those above just enjoy crushing people right from the offset.

See if you can get a chassis drawing of both and see what's involved

I actually think this could be a good idea if the 2 halves are reasonably close size wise.

It couldn't look much worse than Holden's effort

The Combo floor area is only 6 ft in length, not sure of the width between the wheel arches approx 1mtr+. German designed. I owned one for 6 years before I purchased my Jimny The Combo was only reving at 2800RPM at 100K in fifth gear A great tourer on the open road with the low RPM

If someone has the skills to graft a combo load area on to the back of a LWB Sierra they won't need to ask on here if it is possible - it's about as complex an automotive task as you could imagine.

I don't recall Mr green asking if it was possible to build a dual cab sierra, he just got on with it and showed us the outcome. for every one Mr green, there's 100 drunken ute chops.

Is it possible. It's just extremely unlikely to be completed, as is generally the case with these threads.

It's also extremely unlikely to look any good if it was completed, but that's just personal opinion. That's not what I was referring to as a mess - it's the construction and design that's likely to be a mess.

I'm not saying its either look good or be a good project but until someone speaks up everyone here just jumps on the usual bandwagon with no constructive input. At least now there has been some decent input that has at least provided some sort of guidance.

I had a combo for a few years ( it was a lemon ) but it was like having a bedroom when camping, always thought of making one into a 4wd on a jackaroo chassis maybe. I say have a go.
Haters gotta hate, especially when they are asked to go outside their box.

In saying that check with an engineer as it may be over gvm.

It would be easier and look better just to buy a high top and graft that on, filling in the middle with new steel (or even bits from the como van).

Get a hard top sierra body (or two) chop the back end and fill the gap. Would look more factory and you wont have problems if the body size would match or not. Forget about the windows and put some sheet of metal instead panel van style to fill the gap

It wont be wide enough. He has a tray back.

As The_Amateur says, just get a canvas canopy. It'l be 6000x easier, function better, look 10000000x better and you'l be able to sell it if you decide you don't like it. It'l probably cost less too.
