Ever since breaking my standard Jimny transfer mounts offroad I have developed a driveline vibration. Its hard to describe it but it does it on take off with a weird noise and vibration while driving. You feel it transfer and forward like through your feet and body of car. I now have jimnybits hd transfer brackets (the right ones for the newer case) and hd mounts.
Since then I have done the following to try and address:
Jack shaft removed, checked and rebalanced; Rear tailshaft uni rebuilt; Engine mounts; Auto flushed and serviced. Added shudder stop due to thinking it was torque converter related; Played around with the hd mounts I.e. varying heights of TC case etc. Added more rubber bushes, removed some. Tried the standard mounts with JB HD brackets; Ensured the front hubs arent stuck on (the front prop shaft is free)
I am at my wits ends with it. The transmission shop who did the service believe it is not internal of the auto, it still shifts smooth and drives fine behind the 1.8 no slip, being cooled well. They also dont believe its the transfer. It only has about 12000kms on it. They believe its harmonics.
Anyone have anymore ideas and not the 'just live with it response' ?
Cheers

considering the mounts and arms are the olny thing you have changed, i would bung in some stock units and see if the problem go's away at least that will rule the new parts out if its still there

Loosen your bolts off on the brackets

Sorry I should clarify that a little. It sounds like you've bolted the mounts up too tight where the attach to the chassis. I have the same mounts and if you compress the rubber bushes too much it all vibrates through the chassis. I've had this happen before

You want it firm so you can't move it, but not so the bolt starts pushing into the rubber too much

I take it nothing was bent when the old mounts broke ? Could be misalignment, check that the gearbox output shaft and the trans input shaft are on the same plain. They can be at different heights but need to be at the same angle.

When the transfer brackets broke the transfer dropped and the jack shaft hit the rear gearbox mount. It was removed and rebalanced. I was stuck out deep bush and had to drive it out. The transfer was whacking the floor and front propshaft was hitting the chassis bar. Does the gearbox have a rear output shaft that the jackshaft goes on? Perhaps this is bent? This weekend I had the wheels and tyres balanced and a wheel alignment. The tyre guy said the tyres had 'run out' but rims balanced good and the alignment was slightly out. Today I took the rear prop shaft off and drove it off the front. The vibration and noise was definitely still there and perhaps even more profound. I also tweaked the transfer mounts as recommended however the problem remained. Appreciate all the help so far!

There is a chance that as it now has a 1.8 in it the gearbox has had to face uphill slightly to reach the new motor. Try lifting up the forward most mount and making the two on the same plane *Disclamer-im unsure if the gearbox actually has to change from stock position with the 1.8 just and Idea...
Can you chuck some pics up of the underside?
Yes the gearbox has an output shaft that could be bent if it broke under full 1.8 noise. I would firstly put the two back tyres up on jack stands and get the car running and in gear watch the jack shaft and see if it rises up and down ie it doesn't run true. Even better then that, remove the jack shaft and put a scribe on it and rotate it to see if its running true or not.
Is the feeling more of a shudder or a big individuals felt vibration?

It definitely wasnt spinning true before it was removed and balanced so agree perhaps the jack shaft is now fine but being put off by the output shaft. Will check tomorrow. Will also attempt photos. The feeling is so hard to describe, like a whiny noise with hum on take off that then converts into a vibration. You feel it through the floor and the faster you go it seems to spread thr vibration throughout the car even more.

Have you had the tailshaft slip joints apart at all? If so there are alignment dots you have to match up so its balanced properly.

My guess is tail shafts out of phase or a tight uni.

this might be stupid, but if one front hub was somehow locked, the diff would be doing spastic backflips, and that might cause vibration? its only 6 E10 torqx bits, some glad wrap and a rubber band to test the theroy...

If hardy spicer did your balance i wouldnt trust it , i went through the same thing with a customer not long ago , we replaced everything (engine mounts , transfer mounts , gearbox , and transfer case ) and it turned out it was his "balanced" jackshaft.

Thanks losfer I think jack shaft replacement is the most logical and cheapest option next just to be sure.

Second hand jackshaft tomorrow. If not this, that only leaves auto or transfer!

So looks as though the 2nd hand jackshaft has made a substantial difference in the vibration. Some driveline vibration and noise at take off and slow speed still remains but I'm putting that down to the transfer case mounts transferring into the body.
Did anyone else notice a difference when fitting HD brackets in smoothness and drive line noise??
As I've said before the standard mounts and brackets really aren't a continued option for me.

So I spoke to soon, feels like the vibration is back where I was in the beginning.
The rear gearbox seal was also leaking so I pulled it out and noticed the output shaft seems to have a bit of play, both in and out, up and down. Also there were some metal filings in the end of the slip yoke on the jackshaft.
Does anyone know if they are supposed to have any play or what would be deemed excessive? I also noticed even with a different jackshaft it still wobbles a bit not spinning true. I'm thinking the bush might be worn?
I ran Suzuki and they quoted $556 for a rear extension housing. They said the bush is not replaceable just the whole housing........

Thanks to your post, I checked my drive shafts and the rear one was not aligned. I pulled it off and re-assembled with the dots lined up and whoo-hoo I have got rid of a shudder when accelerating that was worst in 2nd gear. I also had a transfer case that was contributing to vibration with a dodgy input shaft bearing, but replaced that a few weeks ago. Now my zook is zmooth at last...

ok I'm really going threw this same vibration right now even though mine is a manual and its doing my head in, after new 1.6 swift sport engine, rebuilt transfer with 20% reduction gears and new HD transfer mounts got this damn vibration, have replaced all rubber mounts.. engine, transfer and gearbox and also noticed that my rear gearbox seal is leaking.. i wonder did Docka83 fix that vibration with a new rear extension housing those few years ago
