Hi guys!

Looking to buy my first suzuki :)

I currently have a Toyota hilux at the moment which is pretty full on.

I'm sick of how expensive everything is, and I'm looking to get jimny and keep it road worthy and basic.

At this stage, I'm thinking of buying brand new, fitting bar, winch, wheels/tires and tow bar.

Nothing else!! If I can control myself!

Soon as my hilux sells I'll be making the purchase, really really love the sierras but I prefer have something low or no kms so I can rely on if and not have to do much Maintenence

Can anyone give me a rough indication of what id pay for a manual jimny from the dealer? Just don't like relying on figures from those pirates haha!!

Probly looking $20k give or take, depending on what state you're in. Queensland have a base model (jx) and a full spec model (jlx) where as nsw and I presume all other states, only have the jlx.

Looks like ill find plenty of info here!! Hopefully a Vic jimny pops up soon!

As you're from Vic, you won't find a new jimny- as they don't have stability control, they have not been sold new in Vic for about 2 years.

You can't buy a new one in NSW and register it in Vic either.

Ok that has helped me so much!! Explains why I'm having so much trouble finding them!! If I purchase one interstate will I be able to get it registered here if it passes road worthy? Sorry for my lack of understanding!
I've never really seen the point of buying interstate unless it's very rare

I think you will find they are back in the dealerships in Victoria this month. I have not seen them myself but I have noticed they are featuring in the TV advertisements again and on the weekend I was shown numerous ads of carsales from Vic dealers selling new Jimnys. I expect that they have added ESC (with was not much of a step up after adding ABS) and they are back on the market here again.

Just checked and quite a few 2013 models brand new in Victoria.

http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/res ... ailable%5d))%26(Make%7b%3d%7d%5bSuzuki%5d%7b%26%7dModel%7b%3d%7d%5bJimny%5d))%26State%7b%3d%7d%5bVictoria%5d)%26Service%3d%5bCarsales%5d)&vertical=car&sortby=TopDeal

I checked the Suzuki Australia site and for sure the Victorian Dealers have them listed again. Strange thing is there is no mention of ESC in any of the specs. I can only assume that somehow Suzuki managed to get an exemption. Might the same sort of deal that allows Land Rover to sell Defenders without air bags?

Interesting.... As Steve says they stopped letting Jimnys into Vic at least 2 years ago. I was of the impression that it's extremely likely they will stop importing them into Aus by the end of next year because of no ESC. I did read one report online suggesting there was an ESC model due for release in Aus later this year, but I haven't seen anything other then that one story to suggest it was going to happen.

If they do let them back into Vic you should haggling for $18990 starting point, we got alloys and metallic paint for another $600 on top of this.
Unfortunately QLD buyers get ripped, Suzuki QLD is it's own beast and they don't make the same offers as the rest of the country. When we got our Jimny the JX base model starting price in QLD was 1k more then we picked up our JLX with alloys and metallic paint.

Mike, do any of the ads list an address?

When I was looking a couple weeks ago there were a few new Jimnys listed as being in Vic, but it turned out they were from an interstate dealer.

Matt

You are right. I rang a few dealers and then Suzuki Australia and they confied no ESC and no new car sales in Victoria. The dealers advertising as Victoria and actually interstate. Suzuki Australia stated that the rule about ESC applies to new car sales so if you purchase a new one interstate and bring it in it won't get registered in Victoria. They said if you buy second hand and bring it in its OK but I would check that with Vicroads if you intended to try that. I pointed out to Suzuki Australia that theur web site tells be to contact my local dealer for a Jimny when I put in my postcode but they did not seem to care.

My understanding is that a jimny sold in another stet after the mandatory esc law came into effect in Vic can't be registered in Vic if it arrives in Vic as a second hand car.

From Vic Roads

*a motor vehicle that is not manufactured or marketed in full volume for normal road use
*a vehicle registered as a Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicle
*a model of motor vehicle that has been declared by VicRoads to be exempt.

Have you bought it already?

And why did you choose the 97 over the leaf sprung varieties?

Found a nice clean example for a great price. Thought it was a good way to test it's the direction I want to go.

Also in terms of going a coily, I will be doing much more road then dirt because it will be my daily.
Call me stupid but wasn't a deciding factor for me, just working with what I've got.
