Hey, I have jimny 09 VVT auto i lifted 3"(jimnybits springs and radius arms and TM shox) locked R & F. i drive stock size tires and i want to change size. my ring and pinion ratio is 4.09. from experience of friends with vvt auto and 215/75/15 it can be possible with no change but lost lot of power and top speed. i dont want to use samurai TC. my thinking is to change to 215/75/15 or 235/75/15 please give me the realistic options that i have (experience with trialjimny will be great) i also think about change ring and pinion i know that my options are: 4.3 of manual vvt http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product ... 15948.htmlhttp://www.fts4x4.com/en/products/?meth ... il&aid=267what do you think? hope to hear from experience thanks all Guy

Have you confirmed your diff ratio? Apparently all Aust delivered jimnys all have the same diff ratio. Trial jimny stuff is supposed to be ok however I got scared off them as it was hard to send them money and for some reason big jimny isn't allowed to mention their name. Not sure why but it was enough for me to find other ways to lower my gearing.

TrialJimny 20% gears IMO would be the best option for 235's.
There's no real perfect gearing for 215's as it's only a 7% increase. Zukenutters thread on gearing options did give an approx 7% reduction but it was a massive amount of work (something like gearbox and diff swap) to get it.

In my opinion if you go with 215/75 then there is no need to touch the gearing especially in the auto. I have this size with the 2009 manual. It is noticeable but not enough to spend money on.
Where are you located by the way? Diff gearing outside Australia might have been different?

Looks as though from another thread he is from Israel. Quite possible there are some differences in diff ratios

If you increase tyre size in an auto Jimny without correcting the gearing, I would say a trans temp gauge is mandatory. That extra load is getting turned into heat in the auto.

correct, i am from israel. for vvt auto the ratioo in the diff is 4.09, for the manual is 4.3 few days ago i drove friend with vvt auto as mine but with bfg 215, drives pretty good (as long as no climbing road - then lost all power so my options that i consider now is 215 with no changes og 235 with ratio of 15 to 20% with trail jimny (they offer only 25% for auto and it feels to low i guess). i thought that 20% is also too long cause it gives 10% lower than stock after changing to 235/75/15, but if jimny timmy says i believe it is from experience. others have some experience with 235? or if someone know Ring & Pinion sets for consider (4.56 and above)
for steve question, i use cooler for auto transmission.
thanks Guy

I understand you might have a cooler, but it's critically important to have a temperature gauge to monitor the fluid temperature. Experience has shown that even with a very large cooler, it very easu to a Jimny auto dangerously hot.
If you use your Jimny off road I think it is critical to have both a large trans cooler and a transmission temperature gauge. It's not enough just to add a cooler and think that is enough to keep the trans cool. Even more so if you have larger than standard tyres.
