Hi all, so we have just swapped our coily transfer case for a 1L case to shorten the gearing for larger tyres. Really happy with the result! However the transfer case makes a faint whining or whistling noise between about 60-90km/h. There are no grinding or clunking noises, just a faint whine that we can only hear with the radio off and windows up. Not sure if this is normal, or something to be worried about? The case we bought had apparently just been reconditioned, but when we changed the oil there was only about 400mL in it and there were a few very small metal filings in it. We have replaced the oil (obviously!) with correct level but the faint whining sound persists.

Not sure if this noise is normal, as we haven't had a gear-driven transfer before, or if we need to investigate further. Any thoughts or advice would be great! Thanks!

You have gone from a chain driven case to gears, its normal as i asked the same question when i did the conversion in mine.

Two things to check that made mine sound better:

Is the rubber bush in the top of the transfer where the stick sits in and is the rubber boot around the stick sealed onto the floor and around the stick. I remember the coily boot was looser around the stick on mine so i used a peice of 1inch hose and a zip tie on the stick before i placed the boot over it.
