I'm wanting to get a set of racing harnesses for my LJ, as it would be better protection then the lap belts for 4wding.
What I want to know is what would be the ideal type of harness and how/where they would mount too?

Most people who use them will tell you 4 point racing harnesses suck when social wheeling. I've got some cheapo Autotechnica ones and am reasonably happy them them, the lap parts are mounted to the standard seatbelt point and the shoulder straps go over a taxi bar and attach to the floor behind the seats with a backing plate to stop them pulling through the body. I have also removed the standard lap sash belts.

I have racing harnesses (from racing) but would never put one in a 4x4... unless I was racing. Having your shoulders strapped to the seat does terrible things for comfort and visibility/moveability.

Have you ever actually used a racing harness? (I'm not being a dick; genuine question.)

If a harness is tight enough to be useful it's a massive pain for "normal" driving.

i love my harness in my lj50, but it becomes a massive pain in the ass when trying to reverse down hills, or reverse in general.

you need to have adr compliant ones with a "normal" seal belt type buckle to get them mod plated in QLD
motorsport accessories in brisbane (on face book) have some good cheap 4 point ones for around $50 each

You can buy aeroplane lap belts on eBay - i used them to make my door straps, but i contemplated using them as additional lap belts for offroad too.

For social wheeling they would be a pain, though with the very small space inside the LJ you don't need a heap of movements to actually see. If you have a guide/navie and are crawling doing really technical stuff they're great

I have 4 points in the LJ and as said they really inhibit any sort of rear vision, though I can slip the shoulders out and the lap bit stays on. When the doors are off the harness gives the illusion of safety.
