Something WILL eventually come up on here on Auszookers, if you're willing to wait.

Luckily your in Melbourne so you won't get reamed on freight.

You might get lucky and get a case with gears already in it from here. People sell for good prices too.

I have a case here if you can find some gears for it. It's sitting in a project that I have and it's getting replaced. You'd have to find the shafts from somewhere though

Essentially its the warm air intake. I cant remember the correct name for it.
It is a system where the intake air temp is controlled when its cold outside.
It helps a lot!

If you remove it, it may run horrible when its cold (cool and humid), and/or will eventually stall due to the carby icing up.
I removed mine and put it in the bin when I put my snorkel on, thinking it wouldnt really matter.
After a couple of winters, i rigged up a manual setup because the carby icing up drove me nuts.

It all depends on the conditions and weather you drive, but it does make a difference.
Having to pull over and stop for a few mins every 5-10 mins of driving sucks butthole.

It doesnt need to be freezing to ice the carby up.
The venturi effect in the carby and the heat the fuel absorbs when it evaporates can be enough to freeze the water in the air.
Ive found its usually when wide open throttle, and sub 10 degrees and raining/foggy/misty etc
Sometimes driving into the mountains etc will do it too.

Consider a manual setup to help the snorkel seal to the airbox.
You can do that when you prepare for offroading at the meetup point whilst airing down etc.
But id keep this piece activate for onroad use.

You know way to much haha! Awesome!!

May just run a flexi pipe type instead of my alloy one I bought, will just be easier I think.

If anyone's after an alloy snorkel shoot me a message

Sj70 xfer case with brand new set of gears in it with hand brake fitted to transfer case Trail tough gears 20% lower in High range and 187% lower in low range...

The gears can cost any where inbetween US$600-$750 without postage and what you have is with t case and fitted I dont think its too bad but have you asked if that the best they can do

For a new set of 6.5 gears (that ratio is not trail tough AFAIK), but the price seems about right.
http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/index.ph ... cases.html
Is that including the core charge?
You may (most likely) still need flanges, and case mounts etc too

The high range will be lower than what you are looking for.

Where from?

6.5s from LROR are currently $599 + Gear Install Supplement Kit $115 + postage ~$60. Thats ~$853 with current exchange rate.

You still have to factor in price for a 1.3 TCase and getting it rebuilt.

IMO that price isn't too bad.

Hmm yea it's been fully rebuilt, so actually having a think about it. His also happy to install for 200 and include anything needed. Ill bargain with him but needed to see it was some where in the ball park.

It seems this type of set up would be ideal for about a 32" tire which is no issue for me

Probably need a body lift or do some cutting to fit a 32.

You'll likely start breaking stuff too.

Yep there will be 2" body lift and plenty of cutting. Will ride on 31s and see if I can get away with it.

Most important factor with the 6.5s
Are the gears new or someones second hand case?
Will you get the warranty (and I mean get the warranty, not just their word) on the 6.5 gears? or will you get ass ripped paying new prices on second hand gears and no warranty?

Also good luck with not breaking things :)

Are 31s really that extreme on a sierra it will break?

You got a coily, so yes. Thats why we asked you why you got one.

It'll definitely go places and be very capable on 31s that by most accounts will wheel with trolls and cruisers and stuff on 35's. 33's + on a sierra gets to be a pretty serious fourby.

If you gear it and run a rear locker on 31's, you will be very pleasantly surprised with where it gets you.

I'm not a coily guy, but in leaf versions its mainly CVs and twisting / breaking axles. With low gearing in the transfer case you can damage the transfer case mounting arms if they're not braced / replaced with better items.

31s on stock axles etc shouldn't give any trouble if you drive sensibly.

As you go over 31s (some people on 31's as well) you get closer to these things limit.

Yep great points! Coming from a hilux on 35s I've had to adjust my off road driving to a very smooth and sensible style haha!

Good thing is you're not up for 5 grand every time you break something on a sierra!

Thank being said, I will be upgrading as I go.

You guys have been awesome help! Appreciate everyone's input

Honestly an IFS Hilux on 35s is probably more likely to break.

My mates broke heaps on 31s, my other mates IFS rigs are similar (Triton etc.) .

Edit: Sorry if I'm coming off as rude, I'm not trying to be.

Not rude at all!! That's reality!!

Breaking parts is part of the sport. I understand everyone says you can drive to or set up to prevent, but let's face it, it happens!

Don't forget coil sierras have weaker cv's than leaf cars and there is no bolt in fix like a WT car. 31's are ok on stock cv's in Victoria, but if you are abusive or weld (or work out how to otherwise lock) the front end the front cv's will become an issue.

Haha will post a pic of the finished product. Looks a bit dodgy but for a budget set up it does the job.

Not sure it will actually function with the hot air intake still installed
