people have been saying a good modification to make is an RUF and the using hilux front springs in the rear. would a suitably extension to this modifcation to be and RUF with 2" lifted springs and 2" lifted hilux front springs in the rear?

Sierra springs are 50mm wide.... Hilux springs are 60mm wide so it's not really a bolt in mod.

ok. nothing seems to be easy unfortunately. i'm more than capable of fabricating (well a friends of mine is) so long as its nothing crazy.

is there an easy way of getting more than 2 inches of lift and a reasonable amount of flex that can be engineered and is not exorbitantly eexpensive?

im more lost than ever.

i realise that that question cant really be answered otherwise everybody would be doing that particular mod.

yes and no. being able to get awesome flex isn't a super cheap road usually. But if your after that amazement factor then spring the crap out of it, but lockers and slightly muddies will not need engineering and is going to be more astonishing when you drive what looks to be a nearly standard truck up the hard line... according to a good source hilux springs can squeeze into sierra mounts with a bit of lovin' but that doesn't make it right to do...although it is and has been done.

Just did this mod myself. Full RUF on 2" lifted rears, chassis extension and relocated shackle hangers with 2" LN65 Fronts at the back. It required custom shackle hangers for rear, but the 60mm spring fits into the fixed hanger.....just. I am only running 3 of the leaves in the rear, and 3 in the front.

I also did a U-bolt flip at the same time using the flat bottom forged U-bolts from the hilux front ( call carrols about these). had to make my own sandwich plate and mounted some sierra front bump stop rubbers to the plate.

You should also note that the hilux fronts will move your diff back 80mm, so either a longer tailshaft is required ( best solution) or 2 1.25" spacers ( one at each end). I have used spacers as an interim fix.

All in all I am happy with the result however I don't get as much flex in the rear as I would have expected. I have put this down to the fact that the leaves are 60mm wide, and do not want to twist under the measly wieght of 1 litre diffs and 30's. But I do use my ute as a ute quite often, so wider springs do help hold the arse end up a bit better. Catch 22 really.

Here is a pic. You can sort of see how the front diff has moved forward from the full RUF. Rear is back heaps, but all in all it looks reasonably stock.

Any pics of your u-bolts Pete?

I have some Hilux springs and was thinking about doing this at some point. What you're saying about it being reasonably stiff is actually what i'm after, so it might work out pretty well for me. I'm not 100% sure where my springs came from though so it could be a bit of a guessing game. Any chance you could measure yours for me?

Not engineered, but it would be a 2" sus lift so who cares really.
