Looks to me like you are doing teeth extraction to the R&P every time.
I'll go with the others and say that there is too much force on these and they 'just pop'
Happy driving/big wheels/huge loads + second hand parts can be a nasty combo.
Can you please not deplete the 5.12 gears around Brissy, I might need some too. :p

This is what my rear diff did recently.
Years of abuse, 20 year old diff, auto locker, larger tyres, plenty of off road and towing is what I blame.
Replaced it with 2nd hand diff of unknown age, without locker fitted.
Not expecting it to last forever.

XL7 diff is a possibility. You would have to swap over the entire housing. 5.12 is available..... I have one in the shed.....

I actually thout about doing this when I snapped the axle.... but put it in the CBF pile of ideas ive had

Finally pulled the rear diff out... Same as last time except it's sheared further out. Left is the old one right is most recent.

Yeah I thought so, whoever set it up made it really tight. Gonna take new one down to shop and get them to set it up properly.

Also would a gearbox/transaxle oil be fine in transfer and diffs? Transfer calls for GL-4 but I can't find any :S

Transfer calls for GL-4 75W90, every 75W90 listed on Supercheaps website is GL-5

EDIT: Diff calls for GL-5 80W90

As mentioned the pinion looks like it was way too deep on both of them, more so on the left one.

Some interesting things on GL-4 vs GL-5

Were both R&P's dead quiet when they were installed? On acceleration, deceleration and coasting?

Couldn't hear anything, just a bit of bearing noise on the right hand one.
