Help Please.

My 95 JX Vit with G16B was due for timing belt change at just over 200,000k, I also decided to remove the head and give it a bit of a tidy up as well.
Prior to the work the car was starting and running well. I have not changed anything else on the motor at this stage.

I set the cam timing belt up with No4 cyl on TDC, 'E' marking on the cam sprocket at top, and the crank sprocket marks aligned, as per various manuals/internet guides.
I set valve clearances as per my manual at 005" cold.

Since I had the head off, I had to remove the dissy, but did not remove the plug leads from the dissy cap.
I initially installed the dissy so that rotor button was pointing at the contact for plug lead No.1 when No.1 cylinder was at TDC, and motor would not start.
Almost sounded like it wanted to start at one stage. Seems to turn over OK, doesn't seem to want to start at all.
I had good spark yesterday when I checked it.
Fuel pump is working and injectors are working based on fuel smell on the plugs, and almost wet plugs.

After reading Tony Evans epic about his Vit that wouldn't start after a flat battery, today I have re-installed the dissy as per the instructions I found in his post, which indicated I could have been one tooth out, but the rotor button doesn't point to the contact for No.1 cyl plug lead is this correct???? and motor still won't start, if anything it sounds less like it wants to start.

I have also checked the fuses inside the car and in the engine bay and could not find any blown fuses.

Does anybody have any ideas what is going on, what have I missed perhaps.

Timing may be 180 degrees out!

My knowledge is based on Chevy engines, but I'd suggest you're 180degrees out, ie crank spins twice to dizzied once(try spinning the crank 360degrees and reinstall dizzy. Good luck

Hi - I feel for you my friend it is VERY frustrating.

I am fairly sure that it is timing - I ended up ignoring the manual and timed it (put in the dissy) the old fashioned way. IE -

Bring the number 1 piston (front one) to top dead centre with both valves closed IE You can rattle both rockers.

Insert the dissy so that the rotor button if facing number one lead - It will rotate as you push it in so it may take a few try's to get it in the right place. It only fits in one way as the gear has a odd number of teeth so there is ONLY one place that will work and the car start and run.

The Vit is going now, and yes the dissy was one tooth out, re set it the old fashioned way (thanks Tony), like I thought it should be and it worked.
