Hey all, just wondering..... I've picked up a set of extractors and a 2" exhaust system from a fellow sierra enthuisiast, but before i fit them i just wanted to check a few things...

1- if i keep the stock carby and air intake system will the extractors and exhaust have any real affect because although they suck the air out quicker, the carby cant put more in there to replace it so no overall gain??

2- will the extractors and exhaust put pressure or strain on my 310,000+km engine and blow it??

3- if so, are there any cheap (I mean cheap cause I'm a uni student) but reliable ways to improve my carby/air intake system to maximise the gain out the extractors and minimise the wear on my engine??

*note* i havn't done any mods to improve the performance of the sierra other then installing a manual choke cause the auto died.

Fitting the extractors and exhaust won't adversely effect the engine in any way.
There is bugger all gain to be made if just fitting the exhaust. You can re-jet the carby to give you a bit more go but that will effect fuel economy slightly.

A bigger exhaust won't suck any air out, but it lets the engine breathe better. You may find a little more power top end as the standard exhaust is in my opinion a little restrictive.
As already mentioned the exhaust system will not adversly affect the engine.
No real point changing the carby on a stock engine as you might find you get a little extra poke, but the fact is, the stock engine will be running too rich with a bigger carb on it which can adversly affect engine life. If it's an old engine, you're probably better off saving your $$ and buying a 1.6 to shoehorn in, or if it's in good nick then as well as the exhaust, you could put a mild cam, rejet the carb or put a Vit carb on it and port match the manifolds to get a bit of extra poke.

what sought of work/money is involved with putting in a mild cam and rejeting my stock carby?
i understand how to do the jets, they're relatively easy but not sure on cost.
the cam however, not entirely sure how i would do this or how much.

also what will these mods do to my fuel consumption?

another thought, will there be any problems with heat from the extractors? a mate put extractors on his patrol and it caused all the under bonnet heat fabric to catch fire...
